The trains arrive in Lviv from the South with displaced children and other persons and they bring with them the meagre belongings they managed to save from the Russian artillery fire indiscriminately, not caring who they hit. Scorched earth is all they care about in their neocolonialistic goal of restoring NovoRussia. Not even Ukrainian wine is now safe, so only Spanish is available in the restaurants. Now, though, they have found Unicef, a haven of tranquility for the displaced. Bright colours, and a playroom for the children, and advice, and help in reconstructing their lives for the adults who were never a threat to Russia and just wanted to live in peace. (I was given permission to photograph at the Lviv main station.)

Reminders of war are all around us, whether it be the power generators all around reminding of the bombings to Lviv's power station that caused outages a couple of weeks ago, the signs to the nearest shelter, or the keeping an eye on the time when it gets close to the midnight curfew, after which even Bolt/Uber cars on the streets will be stopped and fined. Then there's the sandbags at the government windows when you arrive for a meeting (I can't photograph at the front but snapped this to demonstrate at the side.

It's been a long time since I last flew a helicoptor solo and as much as I am tempted,, I would probably be shot down by the young Russian top guns in a blink, wasting expensive equipment that is best left in the hands of young Ukrainians. This leaves me to my Track 1.5 diplomacy, for which my excellent peripheral vision has enabled me to reach this ripe old age. However, there have also been times when these rather ugly sunglasses that have small mirrors at their edges so that I can see what or who is behind me have been a help too. Most of those who do what I do have them?
