Duncan Mackay transforms what the tide leaves behind into playful, improbable works of art. His practice is rooted in beachcombing: gathering driftwood, stones, fishing line, and marine plastics, then reshaping them into sculptures that question beauty, fragility, and chance.

Mackay also founded the Institute of Beachology, a global, free community encouraging people to be healthy, inspired, and connected through beach-clean and creative acts. His art, writing, and environmental imagination all circle back to the same truth: our commons, our coastlines, belong to everyone.
