NH-10 Open for All Vehicles, Traffic Congestion Reported at Several Stretches

Gangtok, August 18: National Highway 10 (NH-10) has been reopened for all types of vehicle movement. The Darjeeling–Teesta Road is also operational, providing commuters with an alternative route. However, traffic congestion has been reported at several stretches along NH-10.

सोनादामा पौडी खेल्ने क्रममा पोखरीमा डुबेर दुई किशोरको मृत्यु

सोनादा, अगस्ट १७ : सोनादामा आइतबार घटेको एक दुःखद घटनामा दुई किशोरको मृत्यु भएको छ। खोंग खोला पम्प हाउसमा पौडी खेल्ने क्रममा १६ वर्षीय प्रकाश तामाङ (उच्च सोनादा ग्राम पञ्चायत छाता चौक निवासी) र १७ वर्षीय आर्यन तामाङ (लहरे माने, सोनादा निवासी) डुबेर ज्यान गुमाएका हुन्।

घटनापछि सोनादा पुलिस स्टेशन र जोरबंगलो थानाका अधिकारीहरू, स्थानीयवासी, दमकल विभाग र वन विभागका टोली घटनास्थल पुगेका थिए। संयुक्त प्रयासमा दुबै शव फेला पारी उद्धार गरियो। शवलाई कानुनी प्रक्रिया पूरा गर्दै पोस्टमार्टमका लागि दार्जिलिङ सदर अस्पताल पठाइएको पुलिस क्षले जनाएको छ।

अचानक घटेको यस घटनाले सम्पूर्ण क्षेत्रनै शोकमा डुबेको छ।

BJP Names Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as NDA’s Vice-Presidential Candidate

New Delhi, August 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) official candidate for the upcoming Vice-President election, scheduled to be held in September.

PRESS RELEASE I SORENG DISTRICT POLICE SEIZE CONTRABAND SUBSTANCES

Soreng, August 17 : In a major breakthrough, the Naya Bazar Police Station under Soreng District intercepted a taxi (SK04J/0015 – Maxx) near the Forest Bungalow, Nayabazar, on the evening of August 16, 2025, at around 2103 hrs, and apprehended one person in possession of suspected contraband substances.
The accused, identified as Passang Bhutia (32 years), son of Late Jangbo Bhutia and resident of Housing Colony, Nayabazar, Soreng District, was found carrying narcotic substances in his vehicle.
Upon search of the vehicle, conducted in the presence of Ms. Pramila Gurung, BDO, Baiguney, the police recovered and seized the following:
• 144 capsules of Windlas Winspasmo Forte (18 strips, blue in colour)
• ₹ 4,600/- cash
A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act, 2006, and further investigation is underway.
The accused, a habitual drug peddler under police surveillance for some time, has been arrested, and both the contraband substances and his vehicle have been seized.

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista Meets Tea Trade Union Leaders to Address Workers’ Concerns

Darjeeling, Aug 17: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista today convened a meeting with leaders and representatives of various tea trade unions from across the Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars, and North Bengal to deliberate on the pressing issues faced by tea garden and cinchona plantation workers.

The discussions highlighted workers’ challenges, including extremely low wages, non-implementation of the New Labour Codes passed by Parliament, and alleged continued exploitation under the West Bengal Government.

Bista emphasized collective efforts with all trade and workers’ unions to safeguard workers’ rights, address grievances, and ensure justice.

The meeting was also attended by Alipurduars MP Manoj Tigga, Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamay Barman, Phansidewa MLA Durga Murmu, and BJP State Trade Union Relation Cell Co-convenor Aritra Chatterjee, among others.

Soldiers Celebrate Independence Day at India–Nepal Border Check Post
