Who remembers this lockdown trend? 🥲
This came up as a memory from ONE MONTH after I joined TikTok six years ago. Back when I was a mum with two kids under two, filming lip syncs during nap time and genuinely thinking this app was just a bit of fun to stop me losing my mind in lockdown.
I never started TikTok thinking it would become a career. Honestly, “influencer” wasn’t even really a thing to me then. I just missed performing.
But in the back of my mind, I always wondered how I’d ever make work fit around school runs and family life. I remember thinking I’d probably end up doing portraits from home because picking kids up at 3.30 doesn’t exactly scream “traditional career path”.
Then somehow… this happened.
Very slowly at first. A couple of years before I earned anything. Then brand deals, agents, opportunities, auditions, writing, presenting, all sorts started coming from social media and I realised… oh. This might actually be something.
Fast forward six years and this weird little app puts our children through one of the best schools and gives our family stability. Which is absolutely mad considering it started with me aggressively lip syncing in the kitchen while a toddler wiped yoghurt on the dog.
I don’t come from money, despite what many people think. We had one income as many do, with 2 young kids. I didn’t have a grand plan. I just posted silly videos consistently and hoped for the best.
Seeing this memory honestly made me emotional. So obviously I had to repost it.
Six years ago I was just a bit of a bored mum in lockdown doing lip syncs in the kitchen for a laugh. I had absolutely no idea that one silly little app would completely change the direction of my life.
You genuinely never know where something small might end up leading.
THANK YOU everyone for your continued support.
