Nicki Minaj has paid tribute to Trinidad and Tobago calypso legend Mighty Sparrow following his death at age 91.

The Trinidadian-born rapper shared a tribute from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on social media, adding: “What a legacy. Icon. Rest in peace,” alongside the Trinidad and Tobago flag and a heart.

Sparrow, whose real name was Slinger Francisco, died in New York on September 27 following a brief illness.

His family said he was surrounded by loved ones, but did not disclose a specific cause of death.

Born in Grenada in 1935 and raised in Trinidad, Sparrow became one of calypso’s most influential figures.

His breakthrough came in 1956 with “Jean and Dinah,” which earned both the Calypso King and Carnival Road March titles.

His career spanned decades and included songs such as “Obeah Wedding,” “Congo Man” and “Federation.”

đŸŽ” Stevie Wonder is marking the 50th anniversary of his landmark album Songs in the Key of Life with a new four-track EP featuring previously unreleased recordings from the album’s sessions.

The EP includes “It’s Easier,” “My Life Story of Love,” “I Can See the Sun In Late December” and “I’m Into Livin’.”

Wonder personally selected the recordings, which were recently mixed by the album’s original engineers, John Fischbach and Gary O Adante.

The album features classics including “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely” and “As.”

The anniversary celebration will continue with Wonder’s 50th Anniversary Tour, which begins in Europe in October before moving to the United States in November.

đŸ„ƒ The Government is moving to increase the legal age for alcohol and to***co from 18 to 21, while proposing a higher age limit of 25 for cannabis and gambling.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the proposed changes on Monday, with legislation scheduled to be introduced in Parliament on Wednesday.

🚭 The Bill would amend several laws covering alcohol, to***co, cannabis, gambling and related regulations.

The Prime Minister said the measures are aimed at strengthening protections for young people and addressing concerns about the effects of early substance use and gambling.

The proposed cannabis age of 25 is higher than the 21-year limit previously outlined by the Government earlier this year.

🔞If passed, the changes would replace the current legal age of 18 for alcohol sales with a new minimum of 21, while cannabis and gambling would carry a minimum age of 25.

đŸ•Šïž Veteran Jamaican Dancehall artist Lieutenant Stitchie has died at age 60, just one day before his 61st birthday.

The entertainer, whose real name was Cleveland “Cleve” Laing, died at hospital on Monday.

His death came shortly after his wife, Sophia Laing, confirmed that he had been admitted to Kingston Public Hospital with a low blood count and was receiving treatment.

Stitchie had also been dealing with health challenges following a debilitating stroke in September 2024.

🇯đŸ‡Č Stitchie emerged from Jamaica’s sound-system culture in the early 1980s and gained wider attention with songs including “Wear Yuh Size” and “Natty Dread.”

He later signed with Atlantic Records before making a major career shift into gospel music after becoming a born-again Christian in 1997.

His transition from dancehall to gospel earned him continued respect across Jamaica’s music industry, marking a career that spanned more than four decades.

âšœ Trinidad and Tobago’s senior men’s football team suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Dominican Republic at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Sunday, leaving head coach Derek King still searching for his first win after eight matches in charge.

Daniel Phillips put the Warriors ahead in the 37th minute with a spectacular half-volley from the edge of the box. However, Heinz Mörschel levelled five minutes later with a long-range effort after being given too much time and space.

Mariano DĂaz completed the comeback early in the second half, scoring in the 50th minute after finding space inside the T&T defence.

The Warriors created several chances late on, including efforts from Levi Garcia and Dantaye Gilbert, but could not find an equaliser.

The defeat leaves T&T facing a crucial two-match series against Curaçao. Positive results will be needed to avoid relegation from Nations League A and maintain their hopes of qualifying for next year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
