Suriname's FIRST female president has been elected!

Here’s your SCORCH Radio 411 🗞️

📰 Get ready to show ID—everywhere. The T&T Government wants everyone to carry ID at all times. It’s part of a new plan to help police enforce higher age limits for alcohol and majiruna use, and gambling.

📰 A Rural Development Ministry release says most of the TT$300M in URP was wasted, paid to people who didn’t work, including folks overseas. It went on to say only $2M went to real projects, blaming ghost gangs and corruption under the last government.

📰 Suriname just picked its first-ever female president! Dr. Jennifer Geerlings‑Simons was voted in on July 6, 2025. She’s teaming up with other parties to fix money troubles and get ready for big oil money by 2028.

📰 Cole Palmer stole the show in Chelsea’s 3–0 Club World Cup win, scoring twice and winning the Golden Ball. But US President - Donald Trump caused buzz too, standing beside players on stage and not stepping aside, even leaving with a medal!

📰 And, Denmark is cracking down on deepfakes. A new law would let you own the rights to your own face and voice—so no one can fake you online. Platforms must delete fakes fast or face big fines.

has officially introduced the first-ever Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes, featuring a glucose monitor on her arm and an insulin pump on her waist.

The move is part of the brand’s ongoing push for health inclusivity and real-life storytelling. The release comes in collaboration with medical experts and the Type 1 diabetes community to ensure accurate representation.

According to Mattel, “Barbie helps shape children’s early perceptions of the world, and by reflecting medical conditions like T1D, we ensure more kids can see themselves in the stories they imagine and the dolls they love.”

From wheelchair Barbies to dolls with vitiligo and hearing aids, Mattel continues to prove that the Barbie world is big enough for every story.

Is Mattel hitting the mark or doing too much? 💭

Former Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly says she’s disappointed to see the return of public recognition for SEA top scorers, a move she believes brings back unnecessary pressure and division among students.

“I see the awards are back, but I also see the divisiveness is back again…” she said.

Despite her disappointment, Gadsby-Dolly said she was grateful that the exam was successfully administered.

This year 17,870 students sat the exam. According to official stats:

🔴11.65 per cent scoring 30 per cent or below
🟡66.18 per cent scoring 50 per cent or above.
🟢2.36 per cent scoring 90 per cent or above.

What’s your take? Should we spotlight top SEA performers should be awarded or should we focus on overall growth? 💭
