Rowley Calls for Full Reset of West Indies Cricket After Nepal T20 Shock 🏏⚡️

Former Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has called for sweeping changes to West Indies cricket following the team’s shocking T20 series defeat to Nepal.

Describing the loss as “a gut punch,” Rowley blasted the current “one coach, one selector” model under Daren Sammy as a “spectacular failure” and insisted the regional game needs a full reset, not quick fixes.

He urged Cricket West Indies (CWI) to bring in legends such as Clive Lloyd, Brian Lara, Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, and Curtly Ambrose to help restore standards. Rowley also called for:
✔️ Greater accountability
✔️ Clear performance benchmarks
✔️ Stronger player development systems

The comments come ahead of a CWI media briefing in Antigua on October 1, where officials are expected to outline new decisions following their recent board meeting.

The West Indies are currently ranked 8th in Tests, 9th in ODIs, and 6th in T20s, with a two-match Test series against India starting October 2.

Khary Pierre Called Up to West Indies Test Squad 🏏🇹🇹✨

Trinidad and Tobago spinner Khary Pierre has earned his maiden West Indies Test call-up for the upcoming two-match series in India, starting October 2.

Pierre, who learned of his selection during the CPL semi-finals for St Lucia Kings, described the moment as a “lifelong dream.” Notably, he did not come through T&T’s youth system, making his rise a true testament to persistence and hard work.

The left-arm spinner was the leading wicket-taker in this year’s first-class season, grabbing 41 wickets at 13.56 as Trinidad and Tobago finished third. Pierre says he will focus on control and consistency in India, aiming to contribute to the team in any role.

Angus Eve to Lead T&T Women in World Cup Qualifiers ⚽🇹🇹✨

Former men’s national coach Angus Eve has been appointed to lead Trinidad and Tobago’s senior women’s football team into the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers, with Densill Theobald as his assistant.

Eve, who guided Club Sando to the inaugural Women’s Football League (WoLF) title earlier this year, assumes charge immediately as preparations begin for the new Concacaf qualifying cycle.

The qualifiers - kicking off in November 2025 - will serve as the pathway to both the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

TTFA president Kieron Edwards praised the appointment, noting Eve’s WoLF success made him the right choice, adding that he is “the champion coach of women’s football in T&T.”

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has been recognised as one of the world’s most influential rising stars, earning a spot on TIME magazine’s 2025 TIME100 Next list. The annual feature highlights pioneers, leaders, titans, artists, innovators, and icons shaping the future.

TIME editor-at-large Ian Bremmer noted Ali’s inclusion reflects both Guyana’s rapid economic rise — with over $7.5 billion in offshore oil revenues since 2019 — and the geopolitical challenges of its border dispute with Venezuela.

Praised for his leadership, Ali was recognised for:
✔️ His recent re-election earlier this month
✔️ Investments in roads, schools, and hospitals
✔️ Pledges to diversify Guyana’s economy beyond oil

Ali joins a global list featuring Teyana Taylor (Artists), Rema & GloRilla (Innovators), and football sensation Lamine Yamal.
