Some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters have been composed by TrinBagonian talent 🎼

Trinidad and Tobago-born composer Jonathan Corbie is quietly building a career in Hollywood, with work featured in Deadpool & Wolverine, trailers for John Wick 4 and the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series.

Raised in San Fernando in a musical household - his father guitarist Ken Corbie performed with Lord Kitchener, and his mother Christine was a classical vocalist - Corbie says those early sounds shaped his style. He later moved to Los Angeles in 2018 to study film scoring and now contributes music and sound design to major studios including Marvel and Lionsgate.

Corbie says that while the industry remains difficult to access for Caribbean composers, he plans to help change that.

He recently completed a project with the Point Fortin Iron Giants and hopes to create more opportunities for regional musicians.

“We have world-class talent at home,” he said. “Now it’s about building the pipeline.”

She also finished fifth in discus and seventh in weight throw.

The former West Indies cricketer, who also won triple gold at the 2019 Masters, described the achievements as a rewarding test of her skill in European competition.

Jamaican dancehall artist Valiant is set to feature on a new remix of It Depends, alongside Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller.

Produced by RIOTUSA and Nico Baran, the track samples Usher’s 1998 Billboard No. 1hit Nice & Slow and recently became Brown’s 15th Rhythmic Airplay No. 1.

The remix marks Valiant’s first major international collaboration and gives him an added boost as he continues his Prove Them Wrong tour across the U.S. and Europe. Valiant announced the news on social media, posting the cover art with the caption “banger OTW.”

The remix follows the October 17 release of the Usher-assisted version, which continues to dominate R&B airwaves.

Dantay Brooks, son of dancehall artist Mavado, has been charged with several gun-related offences.

This includes assault at common law, unlawful wounding, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a scheduled offence.

The charges stem from an incident on July 12 in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew, near an area known as “Pon Di Gaza.” Investigators also confirmed Brooks is being probed in connection with another firearm-related matter.

Brooks was freed in March after the Court of Appeal overturned his 2021 murder conviction in the killing of Lorenzo Thomas, which also occurred in Cassava Piece.

His father, Mavado (real name David Brooks), recently returned to Jamaica after seven years abroad.

The artist met with police following his return last week, resulting in an old warrant for his arrest being vacated.
