For those of you who might want another Missouri history podcast while waiting on the next episode of SMM, a new show is on the way! I haven't met Mid-Missouri History Associates but I like what I have seen from them on social media, and I'm looking forward to listening.

"Welcome to the podcast, Chasing Memory..." 🎙️

Yep. I'm recording. It's going to take a bit. My goal is to record all the scripts, then go back and edit. It will create a bank of episodes that I can post and that will allow me to work on others at a more leisurely pace.

It's been a while. But I am excited to try this out again...

189 years ago yesterday the first ever inmate at Missouri State Penitentiary arrived.

Wilson Eidson was sent to MSP from Greene County for a sentence of 2 years and 45 days for stealing a watch valued at $39 (more than $1330 in today's dollars).

He had the place to himself for 81 days. That's how long it would be before the state's courts would send the next batch of prisoners to MSP.

Attached are photos of Eidson's Sentencing and Judgement Papers, courtesy of the Missouri State Archives.
