D.U.I. DRIVER FLEES, AFTER STRIKING PEDESTRIAN AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED, SERIOUSLY INJURING PEDESTRIAN: DATE: Friday, 8-23-24. TIME: Approx. 11:53pm. LOCATION: Ocean Blvd & Pine Ave INJURED??? .law is on your side! Losing is NOT an option! LBPD STATEMENT:On Aug. 23, 2024 at approximately 11:33 p.m., an officer was responding to call for service when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle in the intersection of Pine Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the officer to a local hospital for his injuries and was released a short time later. The occupants of the other vehicle were treated at the scene by fire personnel. While officers were on scene investigating, a separate hit-and-run traffic collision occurred at approximately 11:53 p.m. in which a vehicle struck a pedestrian who was in the crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire personnel. The suspect fled the scene; officers observed the suspect vehicle in the area of Pacific Avenue and 1st Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as Robert Bernal, a 34-year-old resident of Long Beach. He was booked for hit and run and driving under the influence. Bail is pending magistrate review.

ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT CRIES, AFTER BEING CAUGHT BY LBPD:

LOCATION: 100 block of West 1st street

PER LBPD’S STATEMENT:

On December 1, 2023 at approximately 12:19 A.M., Long Beach Police Officers were at the METRO station on the 100 block of West 1st Street when they were flagged down regarding a robbery.

A female adult victim reported that she had been robbed at gunpoint by 2 male adult suspects, while on the train as it was traveling through Long Beach.

The victim was not injured during the incident. Officers were able to detain a suspect in the 500 block of Long Beach Boulevard, who was arrested.

Darnell Simon of Los Angeles – 29 years old, was booked for robbery.

The stolen iPhone was recovered as well as the pellet gun used in the robbery. The victim positively ID’d the suspect, weapon used during the crime, and her stolen phone.

The investigation is ongoing.

BURGLAR CONFRONTED & SHOT; SENT TO JAIL:

Officers investigate a shooting –

On Nov. 28, 2023, at approximately 1:42 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Stanley Avenue regarding a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for his injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was at the 3000 block of East Anaheim Street, when he was approached by an unknown vehicle with an unknown number of occupants.

After a brief verbal exchange, an unknown suspect fired shots at the victim. The suspect(s) fled the scene before officers arrived. Suspect information and motive for the shooting is under investigation.

It was later determined that the shooting victim was the suspect in a burglary that occurred at approximately 1:19 a.m., in the same area.

Once the suspect received medical clearance, he was transported to Long Beach City Jail for booking.

The investigation is ongoing.

DRIVER ARRESTED FOR D.U.I, AFTER CRASHING INTO FAMILY WITH CHILDREN:

Details:
- Signal Hill PD and LACoFD/LBFD responded to a vehicle collision in the area of PCH & Coronado Avenue involving 2 vehicles.

- Upon Arrival, One vehicle had a family inside the vehicle with children that did not sustain any injuries.

- The other female driver was arrested for DUI who crashed into the other vehicle and also Failed to pass her sobriety tests on scene.

-Unfortunately the family had to walk home due to this DUI drivers decisions.

Officers Investigate a hit shooting:

On Nov. 18,2023, at approximately 12:18 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of e Market Street regarding a shooting.

The preliminary investigation indicates two male adults were in a verbal altercation. One of the men began to run away and the second man (suspect) fired shots towards him. Both men fled the scene.

An uninvolved man was struck by gunfire in the upper body. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported him to a local hospital for his non life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

PASSENGER PINNED IN VEHICLE ON METRO TRAIN TRACKS, AFTER HIT & RUN DRIVER FLEES:

Details:
- Vehicle stuck on metro train tracks after a white vehicle crashed into the Ford Bronco causing the passenger to get pinned inside the vehicle.

- LBFD freed the female passenger from the vehicle and she was transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries, while the driver of the Ford Bronco did not sustain any injuries.

- Metro train was delayed until vehicle was towed off of the tracks around 1:30am.

- Police are investigating after the hit and run vehicle left behind their bumper with license plate on it.

MAN ON MOPED, DRIVES THROUGH ROAD CLOSURE DUE TO A COLLISION; GETS DETAINED:

TIME: Approximately 11:20pm
LOCATION: “The Brit Bar” on Broadway near Hermosa Ave

LBPD had both directions Eastbound and Westbound on Broadway blocked due to a traffic collision investigation and a man on a moped decided to drive through the street closure and state “he did not see the car there”.

LBPD stop the man and advise him of the closure and stated that there is “fluid leak” on the floor for his safety of driving a moped and ask for ID following an argument with PD.

LBPD detain the man and LBPD is investigating further.

WOMAN TRAPPED AFTER CRASHING INTO PARKED VEHICLE, TRANSPORTED IN SERIOUS CONDITION:

DATE: Thursday 11/16/23
TIME: Approximately 5:50pm
LOCATION: (North of) 4th Street & Cherry Avenue

LBPD and LBFD responded to an overturned vehicle on its side after crashing into a parked vehicle.

Upon LBPD’s arrival, they observed one female patient trapped inside the vehicle that was pinned on its drivers side.

LBFD had to use the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the female victim out of the vehicle safely.

LBFD then freed the female safely and quickly transported her to a local hospital in serious condition.

LBPD has NB and SB traffic on cherry avenue blocked at this time while they are waiting for a tow to pick up the vehicle and for further investigation.

PEDESTRIAN KILLED AFTER HORRIFIC CRASH, CAR SPLITS IN HALF:

Details:
- LBPD is investigating a Fatal horrific crash on PCH east of MLK in Long Beach after a vehicle split in half after impact into a Long Beach bus stop.

-A pedestrian that was on-scene (unknown if they were sitting at the bus stop upon impact) was evaluated at the scene by LBFD and was declared deceased on scene.

-One driver was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries while the other driver was treated on scene.

- Two other vehicles received minor damages from this collision.

-LBPD is still investigating, Police say that speed may be a factor in this collision.

We will provide updates as we get them.

Both Eastbound and Westbound traffic on PCH were closed for further investigation.

I-110 FREEWAY CLOSED “INDEFINITELY” DUE TO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE:

Just after midnight on November 11, the LA City Fire Department responded to what became a major fire in a pallet yard in the 1700 block of E. 14th Street near Downtown LA. The fire quickly consumed the yard, multiple trailers, and a second pallet yard under the 10 Freeway. As a result, the 10 Freeway remains closed in both directions, generally between the 110 Freeway and Alameda Street.

Alternate Surface Street Routes to Avoid Closure


10 Freeway - Eastbound
Exit the freeway at the Alameda Street and 16th Street. To detour back onto the freeway, head northbound on Alameda, eastbound on Olympic Boulevard, and re-enter the 10 East mid-block on the approach to Lemon Street. Alternatively, head northbound on Alameda, eastbound on 7th Street, and enter the 5 freeway.
All 10 eastbound freeway on-ramps between the 110 freeway and Alameda are closed at this time.

10 Freeway - Westbound
Re-enter the 10 freeway westbound by traveling west on Washington Boulevard, north on Central Avenue, and west again on 16th Street.
