LBPD STATEMENT:
Last night, at approximately 6:51 p.m., officers responded to a large group gathering in the area of Bayshore Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. Officers were on scene within 5 minutes of the first call for service. Upon arrival, officers immediately began to disperse a group of about 200 juveniles.
At one point, a fight broke out near Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue, leading to officers detaining several juveniles.
As of 9:45 p.m., some juveniles remained in the area. Officers gave numerous announcements regarding curfew enforcement. Ultimately, five juveniles were cited for curfew violation and transported to their guardians.
“We encourage everyone to enjoy the permitted events taking place in our city. Our police officers have an exceptionally challenging and demanding job in which they remain dedicated to keeping everyone safe. When inappropriate activity occurs, our response will be prompt, direct, and focused,” said Chief Wally Hebeish. “Large-scale disturbances like this deplete our resources and divert our officers from addressing other safety concerns in Long Beach, including emergency responses. We will maintain an enhanced presence throughout the weekend, and any form of violent behavior or law violations will not be tolerated.”
