[1980] Seventeen Seconds is the second LP of study of the British rock band The Cure. Its first edition was launched in April 1980.

After his debut with Three Imaginary Boys, The Cure created a depressive atmosphere that was a prelude to his later works: Faith and Po*******hy and were published in 1981 and 1982 respectively. These three albums composed his so-called "classic trilogy", which reached its climax with the publication of his fourth studio album, Po*******hy. According to Apter, in his unofficial biography of the band, he mentions these three albums as a cohesive stylistic sequence and as an extension of each other, fundamental for the evolution of post-punk genre.

In the hotel room in Newcastle, Smith gave way to the first embryonic lyrics of the album: "I wanted to show my darker and sinister side ... I hope people can see all the ugliness in me and how unhappy I can do others ... "Smith said.

As a result, Seventeen Seconds was the most personal work of Robert Smith to date and, despite commercial temptations, enjoyed some success in sales.
