Although this post comes a little later than planned, we couldn't let the opportunity pass without recognizing Kumiko Nagai and thanking her for her time and service.

During her time with the Kosrae Department of Health & Social Services, she generously shared her knowledge, supported our staff and communities, and made a meaningful difference through her work in nutrition and public health. We are truly grateful for her dedication, kindness, and the relationships she built along the way.

For nearly five decades, Mrs. Jocelyne has served our community with commitment, compassion, and professionalism. Her dedication has touched the lives of countless patients, families, and colleagues, leaving a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the people of Kosrae.

Kosrae Strategic Prevention Framework-Partnership for Success is now open

On June 5, 2026, the DHSA and the JICA Project for Pacific Co-learning Towards Resilient Health Systems (ResPACT) officially handed over the updated Kosrae Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Manual for Antenatal Care to Kosrae State
Hospital. The manual was endorsed on May 28, 2026, by the Director of Health
Services, Dr. Tholman Alik.

The manual was updated through a series of consultations between the ResPACT Project and Kosrae State. More than 10 years have passed since the original MCH Manual was developed. The revised manual provides clear guidance and protocols for antenatal care services, as well as health education materials to support safe
pregnancies and the well-being of women and their families.

During a brief handover meeting, JICA expert Dr. Mizuki Takegata and Project Coordinator Mr. June Poll met with Director Dr. Tholman Alik, the MCH
Coordinator Ms. Patricia Tifas, and MCH staff. Dr. Alik expressed his appreciation for the JICA Project’s continued support to the Kosrae MCH Program and reaffirmed his support for the ResPACT Project’s future activities. Dr. Alik

Kosrae Oral Cancer Workshop (June 17–19, 2026)

The Kosrae Department of Health and Social Services recently hosted an Oral Cancer Workshop.Participants came together to strengthen oral health and referral pathways in Kosrae through learning, discussion, and collaboration.

On Monday, the Kosrae Department of Health & Social Services welcomed Xavier High School students for an orientation led by Dr. Tholman Alik.

As part of their community service program, these students have returned home to Kosrae and will be serving with the department and community for the next 2–4 weeks.

We appreciate their commitment to giving back and wish them a meaningful and rewarding experience🤝👏👏

Congratulations to the Kosrae State Hospital Laboratory Team on successfully completing the 4-day training on Detection and Confirmation of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Neisseria gonorrhoeae! 👏🧪
