Can faith be "taught?" If so, how do we pass along a legacy of faith? I discussed this topic with my parents in the latest podcast. As I parent, I worry about falling short and failing the kids, especially when it comes to spiritual things. Will too much push them away? Will too little leave them aimless? As usual, it helps to talk to Mom and Dad.

Tamson discusses with Dale and Gilda what it means to have a legacy of faith (and if that is even possible).

While I was in NC, I interviewed Dad and Mom about parenting. As you know, I think they are amazing parents! It was interesting to hear about their childhoods and how their parents (for better or worse) helped inform their parenting styles. I could have called this podcast "Parenting Made Simple, by Dale Riddle". 😂

Dale and Gilda discuss their own childhoods and how it shaped their parenting.

Season 4, here we come! Starting off the season by having a father daughter heart-to-heart talk about how we can have hope in times of trouble. I have been fighting feeling helpless and frustrated about the state of our world, and I needed some hope and some laughter and some wisdom to guide me through - I'm thankful I can always count on my dad and mom. Dad talks about his perspective as an 80-year-old who has seen a lot of cultural upheaval. He tells some classic stories that help us understand the difference between belief and trust. And he breaks down what we can do to collectively make a difference as Christians (I found this so encouraging!). May we all have the "characteristics of a Christian" (from a story about a group of determined friends in Luke 5) - may we have compassion, be concerned enough to take action, be convinced that Jesus can help, combine our efforts, and continue without giving up. I felt so hopeful after this conversation and I hope you will too.

Dale and Tamson kick off season 4 by discussing how Christians can be hopeful in the midst of circumstances that might seem hopeless and discouraging.  Dale remembers a sermon he used to preach called "Characteristics of the Church" taken fro...

"I'm Going Home" - the last original song my Dad and Mom recorded. The music series is finally coming to a close. It has been a lot of fun to revisit these old songs.

We are almost at the end of the songwriting and music series. I interviewed Dad about his song "The End Time" which (in my opinion) is one of the most unusual songs he wrote. Generally, thinking about the end time theology is kind of a downer for me, but somehow Dad is able to frame things in a way that gives me hope and makes me laugh and feel more peaceful about the future.

(Posted this back in Oct and didn't realize I never added it here.)
Latest podcast features the youngest members of the Riddle family. The first 10 minutes has several clips of Morgan and me singing when we were little. Life on the road with two little kids, in church every night, was so challenging, but it was fun to hear Mom and Dad recount stories about those early days. (The YouTube video is just photos this week - what a weird and wonderful life we had! I put the link in the comments.)

Dale, Gilda and Tamson discuss Tamson's early songwriting (ages 5 and 6) and life on the road with young children.  I included a clip of Morgan singing as well (age 4).YouTube video - no lyrics, just photos this time: https://youtu.be/lUN0Dbv...

My Dad's 80th b-day inspired me to edit a few more podcasts. Almost finished with the music series. My Dad sent me this reflection yesterday that I'm including here since he mentions the song:
"My daughter shared a podcast today about a song I wrote years ago about the end times. The song title is “When Life Comes To An End.” Now that I am eighty years old I realize that the end of my physical time on earth is very short, so I am aware that end is coming for me before too long. I have lived a full and wonderful life and it has lasted much longer than I every imagined. Would I do something different if I could start life all over again? Maybe and Probably. However, I have enjoyed this life so much that I would be willing to live all over again."

In the latest podcast, Dad and Mom discuss one of Dad's most popular songs (a song he wrote for Mom when she asked him to write a happy song, and he wrote a song about death . . . but it really is a happy song!), "Don't Mourn for Me."

Well, we took a long break, but I'm finally getting back on track, and we are going to try to finish up the podcasts about music and songwriting. This episode is about Mom's one and only original song. I'm so glad she recorded it and I enjoyed hearing Mom and Dad reminisce about it.

This was the most popular song Dad ever wrote .. a “talking song” about an old man who is having an honest conversation with the Lord about wanting to go home. I still love it and I hope you will too! Here’s the latest podcast in the music series:

We are back! Finally editing podcasts again and continuing with the music series. In this one, Dad and I discuss his song "Resurrection Power." I love this song - it's so dynamic and unique (and of course, I love anything that tells a great story). Link to YouTube lyrics will be in the comments.
