Just a heads up for tomorrow morning, storms should arrive around 8 and last until mid afternoon. This is mainly a wind event with wind gusts up to 45 mph so make sure secure loose things are secured in your yard unless you want to go searching for it later. Storms aren’t predicted to be too severe so that’s a positive thing.

Hector Field Report Video 1

19/02/2025

Well the Snowcows woke up to some snow on the ground this morning. Haven’t measured yet but boy is it cold. 12 degrees and wind chills in single digits. Tonight will be even colder so be prepared. Seeing reports of very icy roads across our watching area, so if you have to get out please be careful. Snow calf Abby and I will try our best to get a live report video today!

The snow appears to be settling in now. The dry air stalled some for us resulting in sleet and a mixed precipitation but right now we are at 28 degrees and only going to get colder with snow falling through the night. After dark the roads could get very questionable.

We now have snow at the Hector Observatory. It seems that the snow bands held together and are now dumping sooner than expected. That should be a good thing where we avoid any ice and it mainly be snow so our snow totals may be higher than anticipated. Keep us posted what it’s doing in your neck of the woods!

Moisture and precipitation is beginning to develop around Fort Smith. If it holds together the next few hours could get interesting, radar shows Pope County anywhere from 11-1. Just depending how fast the systems surround us. Models are showing us more snow than freezing rain or sleet. South of I40 shows less snow but here lately they have talked up snow coming further south than they thought. Keep your eye on alerts and we will keep track and update as needed. Stay safe out there Herd.

This is setting up to be a very interesting next few days. This weekend there is a threat of severe weather that more and more people are starting to pay attention to, so stay weather aware as it comes into our area. Then I am eyeing next Tuesday for an impactful winter weather event. I believe it will be mainly snow but it's going to be cold enough either way it may start out as a mixture so that could bring it's own problem. Not sure on the timing yet on Tuesday but some are saying earlier in the day and we may not get above freezing at all from Tuesday until Friday.
