Sometimes the best adventures happen when the weather doesn’t cooperate...
We set sail down the Gulf of Alaska, keeping a close eye on an incoming storm, and found ourselves hunkered down in one of the wildest, most remote anchorages we've ever been... on the southern tip of Baranof Island — a place locally known as Puffin Cove.
As the gale howled outside, we rode it out surrounded by towering peaks, jumping salmon, and bears - quintessential rugged raw beauty of Alaska’s coast. When the storm finally passed, we caught the perfect weather window and set out into the open Pacific — what followed was one of the best sails we’ve ever had.
Out there, the ocean came alive — humpback whales everywhere we looked, black-footed albatross gliding effortlessly over the waves — an experience we won't soon forget. Our course set for Coronation Island, a mysterious, rarely visited place that few folks ever get the chance to see.
