Trying something different over on the YouTube channel now!
I shot this "real-time" lathe work video while I made a gear shifter k**b for the Kawasaki GT550 Tractor Bobber.
I remember made a real-time lathe video a few years ago and I found it absolutely captivating and was probably one of the reasons I went out and bought a lathe in the first place.
I am by no means a machinist, just a guy with an old lathe who can mess around and make little things for motorbikes. But I find huge satisfaction in it...
Hopefully that comes across in the footage!

I spent a really enjoyable hour on the lathe today turning this shifter k**b for the jockey shift on the GS550 Tractor Bobber.

I've filmed a "real time" lathe work video covering how I made this which will be on the YouTube channel tomorrow hopefully. I thought it was a good opportunity to do a video like that - something I've always thought of after watching a video a few years back of "real time" lathe machining.

Not sure I'll manage more on the bike before things slow down for Christmas. But that said, I'm really enjoying this project. Plenty more fabrication fun to be had 👨🏻‍🏭⚒️

In a hugely vindicating turn of events - I was rummaging in my scrap pile for some steel to make tractor style footboards for the bobber - when I came across this steel drain cover I acquired a number of years ago and "wombled" it away in the blind optimism that it might one day come in handy.

Well today it did!

I cut it down the middle and it's now 2 footboards for the tractor-inspired Kawasaki GT550 bobber 🚜💪🏻

The right side is mounted and the brake lever manipulated and lengthened to operate much like a tractor foot pedal. Form over function? Maybe. But I think it fits the aesthetic I'm aiming for absolutely perfectly 😎

Every winter, my bikes get a good dose of to protect them from the cold and moist air up here in Scotland.
Today, I got the XS250 well coated and tucked away in my storage until spring when I'm keen to iron out some issues that arose after Malle Mile Mudbath back in July!

is brilliant for staving off corrosion and is safe for most bike surfaces (except of course braking components) It's especially useful for a bike like this that I've allowed to develop some patina. Keeping the vintage look without the corrosion getting out of control!

Tuesday morning working out new suspension mounts for the GT550 Bobber!

I measured and machined a full length bar to run right through the frame. After drilling holes and running the bar through to the other side, I could easily align it with the original mounts ensuring identical positions on both sides.

Tacked in place and now I'm able to cut away the original mounts and order new shocks to lower and shorten the back end 💪🏻

Satisfying progress for a rainy Tuesday!

A long overdue bike trip with the one and only

Some absolutely world-class roads, world-class craic and world-class whisky.

Thanks for a cracking weekend, mate! We even managed to stay dry, which is no easy task in Scotland!
