[展覽策劃 - 在地製造Maker Fest]

透過三個月的時間觀察，我們收集了近十位年輕人對於香港仔的想法。從觀察社區的生活日常開始重新了解香港仔現在的社區紋理，再尋找水上人痕跡，了解承傳至今的漁民日常。

隨著年輕人們不斷深入調查，發現香港仔社區有我們想像不到的一面，這裡的海和城市緊密相連不可劃分，我們期望展示這個社區被忽略的日常，讓每個人重新想像香港仔。

1. 《碎影印象》Fragmented impressions

香港仔老舖觀察。老店字體是構成社區獨特的一道日常風景。然而近年變化不斷，舊樓重建，許多老店結業，失去往年風采。我們邀請到從小居住在香港仔的孔版油印工作室the memory machine，透過孔版油印（risograph）的形式重新帶大家留意這道常常被忽略的社區風景。

2.1 社區空間觀察

某人曾在 Someone was here

走入香港仔風之塔公園，我們發現居民在公園裡透過欄杆、健身設施、椅子等展示出令人意想不到的健身法。我們結合年輕人對於公共場所紀錄和藝術家高浚明的想法，製作了不同的「手掌」和「腳掌」，等人們一齊重新想像公共空間的運用。

2.2 社區空間觀察

香港仔考現

我們觀察到香港在社區藏著許多隱性聯繫，許多場景我們難以想像能夠發生的聯繫卻被年輕人紀錄下來。我們將呈現五位年輕人對社區不同面向的觀察，從漁光村隔窗對話，到華富邨的公共雜物產生的社區聯繫，由細微事物開始自見地方。

3.《 水上人？香港人？》

說起香港仔，想必不能脫離水上文化，這個社區有一半以上的居民以前從事水上作業，不過現今漁業減少，香港仔似乎逐漸淡忘水上人痕跡。一共收集了六位年輕人對於水上人文化和香港仔社區的了解。由天光墟的供應和選擇，到餐廳的海鮮加工，甚至訪問水上人的在地家常食譜，以重現水上人在香港仔社區保留的特色。

是次分享會由坪洲化寶盤為起點，深水埗尋常物為延伸：透視日常物中「盡用」的港式設計哲學：

【DX design hub】’Everyday Plus’ Exhibition Sharing: Everyday Informal Solutions

Starting from the transformation of the Peng Chau paper offering washing machine parts to the ordinary objects in Sham Shui Po: a perspective on the Hong Kong-style design philosophy of “making full use” of everyday items.
The flexible use of back alley spaces in Hong Kong, the ingenious adaptation of beer bottles to hold thinner fluid, and so on—this wisdom of fully utilizing objects is actually everywhere to be found.

[Workshop & Exihibition]

We were invited by Design Center to join to their ‘Everyday Plus ’Exhibition: Rediscover the Ordinary

We will guide participants through a map-making workshop ‘Rediscover the Ordinary, ’ where they will explore the lively realm of creatively repurposing everyday items in Sham Shui Po using an interactive self-exploration map. Equipped with tools and a Sham Shui Po map crafted by ISLANDERS, participants will delve into the community, capture its distinctive essence, and unearth the neighbourhoods hidden treasures.

At the end of the workshop, a photo of the participants will be printed and displayed on the map, creating a collective visual narrative to celebrate Sham Shui Po’s legacy as a hub of resourcefulness and innovation.

很高興我們受到設計中心的邀請參加他們的“「Everyday+常物」展覽”
我們將以「尋常物再發現工作坊」帶大家嘗試一種設計角度重新審視深水埗的日常物。

參加者將以我們預備好的一張互動式地圖，在深水埗社區中探索日常再利用的案例，尋找並記錄社區內的獨特創意。

透過全新的視角，參加者可重新認識這個熟悉的社區，尋找那些被賦予新生命的日常普通物件。在工作坊結尾時，我們會把參加者的照片打印出來，貼在地圖上，一同完成一幅集合深水埗尋常物再創造的視覺文化地圖。

[Wanted]

Interns

Islanders is looking for interns to help on our research/publishing/product projects.
The position mostly includes carrying research work about the island(s) but can expand to other tasks depending on your availability and motivation (activities organising, bookshop keeping...)!
We’re looking for someone who could recognise her/himself in the following:
curious mind with head full of whys and hows,
like to chit-chat / interviewing skills,
cross-discipline thinking and analytical skills,
willingness to work on Peng Chau :)
Cantonese speaker (must be…).
Ideally with a background in design, social sciences, geography, architecture... but other fields are not excluded.

You will be working in from Peng Chau, in a supporting working environment where your own ideas can also find a fertile soil to grow.
Time: June - August (2 month)
Internship type: credit-bearing internship

Writing about one's community can take many angles: architecture, typography, walking, photography, and more. From the first neighbourhood chair map to the latest "Rest for a Few Days" sign map, we continuously attempt to tell our community's story through the most unassuming objects.
People frequently ask us: Why does it take so long to release one issue? What is cartography? Where does the inspiration come from? And, why do we write local publications? How can we write them? What happens after we finish writing?
Founders Kit Chan and Myriem Alnet will share their journey of creating the Islanders map-zine since 2020.
Additionally, this sharing session will also serve as the launch event for the fourth issue of "Abundant Island" allowing everyone to learn about some stories behind "Rest for a Few Days."

Islanders 04 Launch: Mapping from the island

On the occasion of the launch of ISLANDERS map-zine 4 'ABUNDANT ISLAND’, founders Kit Chan and Myriem Alnet take the time of a sharing to review the zine-making process and its contribution on the local scene.
More specifically, the discussion will invite participants to explore questions such as: researching local features, writing about the island, avoiding the tourist gaze and anchoring in a community... the time of 4 zines made between 2020 and 2024.

ISLANDERS島民 Zine is a map-zine that enquires into islands, their people and lifestyles to develop original perspectives on sustainable living. Based on in-depth research and mapping, each issue of ISLANDERS aims to reveal another facet of the ordinary condition of the island. As such, the zine is a first step in our process towards envisioning spaces and territories that are more caring for their residents.
