UPND SAYS ACC'S INDEPENDENCE NOT COMPROMISED BY DIRECTOR GENERAL'S PARTY AFFILIATION

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu says the fact that Anti-Corruption Commission –ACC- Director General Dalphne Chabu is a UPND member does not compromise the fight against corruption.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Nkandu says what matters is Ms. Chabu's Zambian citizenship, qualifications, and ability to execute her duties diligently and professionally.

Addressing concerns by various stakeholders over the closure of corruption cases involving government officials, including Solicitor General Marshal Muchenje and Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo as recently announced by the ACC, Mr. Nkandu said this does not imply that the commission has been compromised.

He has stressed that the ACC operates independently within the law, making decisions based on evidence and not political affiliation.

Mr. Nkandu is of the view that sinister suggestions of political interference only serve to undermine public confidence in institutions mandated to uphold integrity and accountability.

He has since advised the opposition against trivializing the fight against corruption, saying government remains committed to combating corruption and ensuring those found guilty face the law, regardless of their political standing.

PEOPLE'S PACT SLAMS UPND GOVERNMENT OVER POLITICAL REPRESSION

The People's Pact, a coalition of opposition parties, is accusing the UPND government of creating a climate of political repression. "The political landscape is not conducive to productivity," says Bartholomew Phiri, Lusaka Province Youth Secretary of the Socialist Party.

Phiri cites widespread intimidation targeting youth, women, traditional leaders, and religious leaders, saying authentic leaders are struggling to engage in civic matters. He points to PF members facing police cases and jail as evidence. "Zambians do not need PF or UPND as of now," Phiri says, warning of revenge politics if PF returns to power.

Phiri recalls PF's past treatment of UPND, saying similar tactics are being used now. "If UPND continues beyond 2026, Zambia's future is at stake," he warns. The People's Pact offers an alternative, with a clear agenda for development. "The People's Pact has no confusion," Phiri emphasizes. "You cannot develop a country when there's confusion." STOP THE IMPATIENCE: A RESPONSE TO THE TONSE ALLIANCE ULTIMATUM

The 12-day ultimatum issued by Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba and Hon. Brian Mundubile (BM) to Hon. Makebi Zulu and Hon. Given Lubinda is a sign of political desperation, not leadership. If you have truly "moved on" and have the numbers you claim, why are you so obsessed with issuing deadlines to leaders you say are "misled"?
Let us set the record straight:

1. The Real Tonse Alliance belongs to the People
The original mandate for the Tonse Alliance was entrusted to the leadership of Hon. Given Lubinda by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL). Any "breakaway" faction attempting to self-impose their leadership is a counterfeit. You cannot walk out of the house and then try to give orders to those who stayed to guard the foundation.

2. True PF Leadership is not Self-Imposed
We reject this culture of "self-appointing" Presidents and "offering" running mate positions to others. Anyone truly committed to the formation must be ready to be led by whoever the conference picks. The True PF structures across the country recognize order, not ultimatums.

3. The Flag Bearer is Coming This Month
While others are busy talking to the media about 12-day countdowns, the real work is happening. The True PF will identify and announce its flag bearer for the August 13, 2026 elections before the end of this month. We are moving with the structures, not with "Shoprite plastic bags" or illegitimate political experiments.

4. Impombo wibilima, ababilima tabaya
To my brothers in the breakaway faction, remember the Bemba proverb: "Impombo wibilima, ababilima tabaya." Do not be too fast; your reckless speed will only drag you into a ditch where it will be impossible to catch up with your friends. Political "fastness" is a recipe for failure.

5. Wait for God’s Time
True leadership is granted by God, not by a press release. If it is not God’s time, your ultimatums are useless. We advise you to tone down, stop the manip

I hope that ALL the 1,858 Councillors across Zambia show up at Mulungushi so that people see that only 144 of them are women. A mere 7%... So Mulungushi will look as if it's hosting a Men's Conference. That's the reason this country doesn't develop, too much testosterone in our public and government institutions. In 2026, vote for more women, on whichever party, to develop Zambia.

BREAK THE CYCLE: DR. FRED M'MEMBE OFFERS FRESH START FOR ZAMBIA

The ongoing cycle of revenge politics between PF and UPND is suffocating Zambia's progress. When PF was in power, UPND faced undemocratic treatment. Now, UPND's turn in power has seen PF members and opposition leaders facing arrests, jail time, and court charges. This isn't leadership; it's retaliation.

Zambia deserves better. We need leaders who prioritize unity, impartiality, and the people's welfare over partisan revenge. Serious scrutiny must be undertaken to exclude those implicated in past political violence from future leadership. Let's give them time to rest, and let new faces emerge. As things stand, having the same people in power will only lead to more revenge and counter-revenge, rather than serving the people.

The confusion within PF and Tonse won't end soon, and they're not the only alternatives for Zambia's development. It's time to look beyond these familiar faces and parties. We need a fresh start, a new direction that prioritizes our nation's needs over personal vendettas. A leader like Dr. Fred M'membe, with his impartial stance and focus on progress, represents the kind of change Zambia needs.

Let's join the People's Pact for Progress and chart a new course for Zambia. One that focuses on serving the people, not settling scores. It's time to leave the past behind and build a brighter future for all Zambians.
