Sunset Beach 🏖️ on O'ahu, a two-mile stretch of sand, is known for big wave surfing during the winter season and is one of the three surf breaks where the famous Vans’ Triple Crown Surfing Contest is held. While the beach is famous for surfing in winter (October–April), there are plenty of activities for non-surfers to enjoy, especially in the summer months. The calm waters in summer are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and bodyboarding, and viewing amazing sunsets is always a must-do at this beach.

Non-profit Treecovery Hawai'i and Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui have collaborated to restore Hawai‘i’s native ecosystems through tree planting. 🌴Following the August 2023 Maui wildfires, they have been actively working to rehabilitate the affected forests and landscapes by supporting tree planting and recovery efforts in Lahaina and Kula, promoting environmental sustainability, and aiding both the land and communities in their recovery. As members of the Treecovery grow hub, Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui takes pride in planting and maintaining over 30,000 trees across Lahaina and Kula. The resort also temporarily houses hundreds of potted trees, including a special air layer from the historic Lahaina Banyan Tree that survived the wildfire, symbolizing hope. Native trees are carefully cultivated on the resort grounds by staff and volunteers from Treecovery Hawaii until they are strong enough to be reintroduced in Lahaina and Kula, symbolizing renewal. Visitors to Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park never forget their first sighting of several dramatic-looking ki‘i standing guard around the bay and heiau, an ancient temple. Ki‘i, or statues carved to resemble the human form, are found around the island at various locations, though perhaps most famously at the Place of Refuge. Around Polynesia, such as New Zealand/Aotearoa, French Polynesia, and beyond, these statues are more commonly known as tikis. These foreboding statues were solicited by the ancient priests and ali‘i (royalty) to keep watch and enforce kapu (system of rules that governed ancient Hawaiian life) and to guard the sacredness of the land. After seeing these towering ki‘i in real life, it’s hard to deny their innate sense of power.
