The Power of the Kick
A friend of mine once cautioned me: “Never kick a frog with the thought of getting rid of it, because in reality you actually increase its speed.”
Now tell me, who even wakes up thinking about kicking frogs? But the truth in that statement is real.
Think about a frog. Its legs are strong, built for leaping great distances. It is agile and adaptable; it can hop on land and swim with ease in water. Its skin absorbs water, adjusting to its environment. And when danger shows up, does it call a meeting? No! It leaps. Again, and again until it finds safety. Persistent. Resilient. Determined.
Now, reflect on your own life. Look at all the things you’ve endured, the challenges you’ve faced. Haven’t you taken some “kicks” along the way? Maybe from family. Maybe from friends. Maybe even from the workplace. Maybe from church.
Some will smile in your face but rehearse your downfall like it’s their favorite Netflix series. Some will pull all-nighters, not to pray for you, but to discuss you! And the church? Let’s be honest, sometimes it feels like a place of silent praise but very loud criticism, you realize that it’s filled with broken people who don’t always respond to the Word.
When people try to kick you down with words or actions, do you know what actually happens? They give you momentum. What was meant to push you back can actually push you forward. What was designed to stop you can actually launch you. Isn’t it funny how God can turn somebody’s negativity into your acceleration?
Don’t allow a “kick” to discourage them. Ask yourself, are you going to stay down when they kick you, or are you going to leap? Are you going to get bitter, or are you going to get better? bitterness is like spiritual quicksand, it keeps you stuck. Are you going to let their words stop you, or are you going to let their words propel you?
No! Embrace a transformative mindset. Let every battle produce growth. Let every pain build endurance. Let every failure be your training ground.
Be like the frog! Let every kick be the force that propels you further. Remember that Sometimes God will allows the kick for he knows you’re too comfortable. Sometimes the discomfort isn’t punishment, it is preparation. Isn’t it true that we don’t grow when we’re cozy, but we grow when we’re challenged? Don’t be angry when it happens. Whatever season you’re in, learn to adapt quickly. God can and will turn things in your favor.
The environment might feel hostile, trust your God-given instincts to lead you to a safe place. Don’t stop. Don’t give up. Keep leaping until you reach your safe place. The snares of your enemies will not prevail.
And when life tries to kick you again, smile and say: “Thank you for the boost!”
Because it’s only getting better from here, you were built to adapt, endure, and move forward. That’s why we don’t walk backwards.
So, smile — it’s going to get better.
