BARINGO COUNTY SECRETARY MOVES TO COURT TO BLOCK ASSEMBLY INVESTIGATION

Baringo, Kenya – June 17, 2025

Baringo County Secretary Jacob Chepkwony has moved to court seeking to block the County Assembly from proceeding with an investigation into allegations of serious misconduct and malpractice leveled against him by an oversight committee.

The County Assembly's Public Accounts and Investments Committee recently raised concerns over alleged irregularities in procurement processes, financial mismanagement, and abuse of office within the county executive, with Chepkwony named as a central figure in the inquiry.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a member of the oversight committee said the assembly was acting within its mandate to promote transparency and accountability in county operations. “We have a duty to the people of Baringo to ensure that public resources are well managed,” the official stated.

Efforts to reach Chepkwony for comment were unsuccessful.

The case adds to mounting tensions between the executive and legislative arms of the Baringo County Government, with analysts warning that the legal standoff could stall key development programmes if not resolved swiftly.

FEAR GRIPS KASOIYO AS LEANING POWER POLE THREATENS COMMUNITY SAFETY

Residents of Kasoiyo Trading Centre are living on edge as a dangerously leaning power pole looms over a busy road and market area, posing a grave risk to locals.

The wooden pole, which carries high-voltage power lines, has tilted alarmingly and appears on the verge of collapse. Locals fear that strong winds or minor disturbances could cause it to topple, potentially resulting in severe injuries, fatalities, and widespread power outages.

Concerned residents are urging Kenya Power to take swift action to avert a disaster. “It’s a ticking time bomb. People move through here all day, and it’s just a matter of time before something tragic happens,” lamented one local trader.

Despite the evident danger, no action has been taken so far. Community members are appealing to Kenya Power to replace or stabilize the pole before it causes irreparable damage.

Experts warn that a collapsing power pole could lead to not only electrocution hazards but also disrupt essential services in the area. The community hopes for urgent intervention to protect lives and property.
