Elon Musk used his time in the White House to shut down government agencies that were trying to hold his companies accountable. He claimed he was cutting $2 trillion in waste, fraud, and abuse, but instead he went after small programs like USAID, which helps poor communities with food, water, and health services. Why? Because USAID was looking into his Starlink company. He also gutted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which protects people from scams and had received over 300 complaints about Tesla. Other agencies like the Department of Labor, EPA, and USDA—all doing oversight on his companies—were also weakened. It wasn’t about saving money; it was about removing anyone who might stand in his way.
At the same time, the Pentagon, which has failed seven audits and wastes more money than any other department, got a big raise. Its budget is now close to $1 trillion. Why didn’t Musk cut there? Because the Pentagon gives his companies huge contracts—$22 billion so far. So while pretending to fight waste, he protected the one agency that gives him the most money. Musk may complain that people don’t appreciate what he did, but the truth is clear: he slashed programs that help people, fired workers, and hurt families—all to protect his power and grow his fortune.
