What Does "Power Beyond Parliament" Mean?

Why is it still relevant today? 🤔

As leftists and believers in socialism, we strongly stand for Democracy and the sovereignty of the people. However, we believe the 1978 Sri Lankan Constitution, with its Executive Presidency, doesn’t truly reflect this.

A Recent Example: Keheliya Rambukwella's Case

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was accused of importing substandard medicines that led to:

11 deaths

26 blinded

Many more unreported cases 🚨

The Frontline Socialist Party stood up first, filing complaints and holding press conferences. This struggle reached Parliament, where the opposition brought a no-confidence motion, but Rambukwella won with a 40-vote majority. 😤

He even mocked the public, saying: "People always die, that's why there are funeral parlours in front of hospitals."

Despite Parliament’s inaction, public pressure led to investigations, petitions, and his arrest. It was historical as it was the first time a Sri Lankan minister was arrested while in office! He had to resign, but the case is still ongoing. ⚖️

📌The Bigger Picture

Parliament couldn’t be held accountable for public health, leading to unnecessary suffering. A power beyond Parliament had to step in. Without this, Rambukwella might still be the Health Minister today.

We don’t reject representative democracy, but we believe it’s not enough to fully represent people’s sovereignty. Here’s how we propose to organize power beyond Parliament:

People’s Councils with legislative authority from the Constitution

Right to Recall representatives

Public opinion polls for constitutional changes

🚨 General Election Results Were In! 🚨

🗳️ The National People's Power has secured a two-thirds majority in Parliament! 🎉

This is a clear rejection of the traditional right-wing corrupt politics, politicians, and the outdated system. The People have made a bold decision to move away from the old guard that rules Sri Lanka for 80 years.

💪 Key Highlights from the results:

1. End of an Era: A decisive step away from the old political powers.

2. Unity Across Communities: NPP securing power in the north and south and also the central hills re-reflects the countrie's collective will in National and Religious unity. 🕊️

3. Change in Electoral Politics: We've witnessed a shift,this is just the beginning of a deeper, lasting transformation. ✊

🔴 The People’s Struggle Alliance (PSA) may not have secured enough seats for Parliament, but our vision for change remains strong:

රජ පවුලේ බේබිලා නීති විභාගෙන් ලංකාවේ එක වෙද්දි,හිතුනු වෙලාවට රොකට් යවද්දි,සමහර පුත්තු නාවික හමුදාවට බැඳිලා ජීවිතේට ක්‍රියාන්විත භූමියකට පය නොගසා චීනේට ශිෂ්‍යයත්ව අරන් යුද පාඨමාලාවලට යද්දි ඒවට හුරේ දැම්ම අපි.තරුෂී ගෙ රු.30 නැති කමට අවලාද කියලා හිනා වෙලා පැත්තකට වුණා.

උන් අපිටත් නිහඬව ඉන්න කියලා බල කරලා,එහෙම නිහඬ පරපුරක්,හඬක් නැති පරපුරක් ගොඩ නගන ගමන් තරුෂිලා වගේ දූ පුතුන් දහස් ගණනක් උපන් ගෙයි මරලා දානවා.බහුතරයකට තමන්ගෙ පට්ටම්,බලය,රැකියාව හැරුණු කොට මේ රට වෙනුවෙන් ,සුවහසක් අපේ දරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් තමන් සතු වගකීම,වගවීම අමතකයි.

ඒවා අතිශෝක්තියෙන් අගයලා තරුෂිලා පයිසෙකට මායිම් නොකරන පරම්පරාවක් මේ රටේ බහුතරය වුණ පසුබිමක අපි අපි ගැනම ලැජ්ජා වෙනවා විනා තරුෂිගේ ජයග්‍රහණය අපේ කරන් දගලන්න අපිට පුළුවන් ද ?
