If someone stole a car and is being pursued in court for theft. If he suddenly returns the car to avert court conviction, should he still be sentenced for stealing.
Or
If someone adducts a girl and he is being prosecuted for the act and he suddenly returns the victim, does that undo the crime to the extent that no prosecution is possible
I am not a lawyer but such questions evade my mind following the reappointment of Governors whose appointments have been challenged in court as unconstitutional.

To prevent any court verdict that may embarrass the Government, all the Governors' were redeployed to the Civil service. This way the Government thought it can dribble the legal system by bringing them back after a brief stint in the civil service to make the legal suit against them irrelevant.

These maneuvers confirms the illegality of their first appointment and goes to show the reckless character of this Government in appointing political stooges in important civil service positions. The same strategy was use when the appointment in to the civil service of political elements was challenged in court. They all eventually resigned from their party while the case is still in court.

These legal administrative blunders can only be characteristics of an incompetent government or a government that has no regard to align it's actions with existing laws .There is no scarcity of legal minds in the Attorney Generals office yet Government continue to ignore proper research in the adhereance of laws and ridicule them selves in the process.

Imagine Imam Baba Leigh ,a member of the human rights commission, appointed as member of a commission of enquiry again. The whole ministry of Justice couldn't figure out the illegality of this appointment. It has to take Imam Baba Leigh to write a lengthy letter highlighting the illegality of his appointment. What a shame.

United Democratic Party will continue to hold you and your Government accountable and employ all legal means to ensure respect for the rule of law. At least your redeployment and reappointment will justify our lawsuits to every Gambian

Many Thanks to Serekunda East Sports Development organisation for the recognition. I am indeed humbled.
SESDO under the Leadership of Modou Cham have achieved remarkable successes during these years not only in terms of sports administration but notably infrastructural development taking place in the mini stadium . This can only be the result of a robust team , dedicated and committed to achieve many milestones in sports development.
We will continue to support you in that endeavor.
Thank you Hon Babucarr Mansally for receiving the certificate on my behalf .

The National Assembly Select Committee on Local Governance and the Committee for Human rights and Constitutional matters yesterday embarked on a Nation Wide Tour to conduct public hearing on the Rent amendment bill tabled by Hon Madi Ceesay of serekunda west.
The Hearing is aimed at gauging public opinion on the content of the bill. This will ensure that it responds to the current realities of the society.

The National Dialogue proved to be another CHARADE of this government to lure citizens and international partners into believing that the government is embracing diversity and pluralism to consolidate a peace loving and democratic society.
But in reality this government and its allies are bent on propagating the notion that the members of the opposition are the enemies of state , spreading information that create chaos and confusion.
This can deduce from the presidents statement when he said his government is not against criticism but emphasizing that criticism must be constructive .
My question is who determines what a constructive criticism is? We as opposition raise issues we consider pertinent as far as development is concerned. If they don't appear to be constructive to the President, that's a matter of opinion but that doesn't mean they are not constructive.
So the approach from the government from the on set gives me little hope with regards upholding democratic principles.
If yesterday incident in Tallinding is anything to go by ,it should have been the first test to the outcome of the National Dialogue where two factions who were one time the same party are having issues with regards to nomenclature. I think the approach should not have been to favor one based on its closeness to Government and mistreat the other for being an opposition

Tallinding youth center was yesterday the scene of yet another abuse of authority and unprofessionalism by personnel of The Gambia Police Force.

The APRC No -TO- Alliance was issued a permit to do a fundraiser at the said venue. Soon after the start of the program, the P.I.U stormed the place informing them that the permit is revoked based on instructions from HIGH COMMAND.
In their quest to seek justification for this rash decision, the forces pounced on them firing tear gases ,beating up people and throwing them behind pick- vehicles. In the process a lot of people sustained injuries while others lost valuable materials. The neighborhood suffered a lot during these few hours of police heavy handedness.

Regime change and not system change , signs of dictatorial tendencies creeping in in many shapes and forms , however subtle or subliminal but still there exist.
All the more reason why fundamental legal and institutional reforms are a must if the citizen are to enjoy fundamental liberties in a democracy. That was it was necessary to amend the public order act by putting a check on the powers of the Police by removing the issuing or revoking of permits from them. If the police have any justification for denying a permit they should proof that to a court. This is to ensure that they are not use by the power that be to suppress citizens right.
What I saw is unacceptable and I suggest that legal action be taken against the police for the abuse of authority causing nuisance in the community, bodily harm and financial losses to the organisers

There must be a presser from the police to explain to the public why was it necessary to revoke a permit they issued. And infact a revocation letter should also have been written and delivered to the organisers
