Like any skill set, VFX compositing is perishable. So, I decided to dust the cobwebs out of my brain over the weekend working on this shot. The stock video footage is from Pixabay; I motion-tracked it in Blender to get a 3D camera solve (thus enabling me to have the 3D model and its associated effects stay locked in a given spot in XYZ space). The energy VFX and music are from Triune Digital's Infinity and Cinematic Action Scores packs, respectively; the background SFX is from Mixkit. I composited it all together in HitFilm.

I made this still image last August, a composite shot with a lot of different effects at play. I've decided to take another crack at the scene, making an animated version a few seconds long (which means setting my computer to render out the ocean overnight, at a very minimum, since modeling the ocean waves takes about a minute for each frame).

It was a dark and stormy sea....
