Jesus uses "market vocabulary" to show that even if one could acquire the entire universe, it is a bankrupt investment if the cost is their eternal soul.

Prayer
How foolish I am, 0 Lord, if I spend my
life in pursuit of things I cannot keep.
It is to chase the wind.
It is vanity and
vexation of spirit, as Solomon put it so
often in the Book of Ecclesiastes.
May I
pursue the true treasures, Lord
knowing that my labor in the Lord is
not in vain and that he who loses his
life for Your sake shall find it. Amen.
