In the USA, the first Monday of September is celebrated as Labor Day. Ironically, we celebrate it by taking the day off from work! Many other countries also have an annual day that recognizes the value and importance of our jobs, careers, and vocations.

Since God created work for us to do before the fall of man into sin, He, too, considers our labors an important part of our purpose and His.

Although since sin entered the world, work can feel like drudgery or punishment, this was not God’s original plan. Even in the perfection of the Garden, He created Adam and instructed him to work the land:

“The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work and keep it.” (Genesis 2:!5)

So, what is the purpose of work? More importantly, what does the Bible say about work? Read through to find out, and find purpose and meaning in whatever vocation God has called you to do! If you enjoyed this excerpt, read more here:

😢 Do you struggle with feeling like you have to "clean up" your life before you can come to God? Or maybe that you're "too far gone" for God to ever forgive you? Have you given up trying to please God or meet His standards?

If so, then I have good news for you!
You CAN'T ever be good enough for God!

The Bible tells us that:
➡️ "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)

The Ten Commandments are not a list of rules God gave us to follow so we could "earn" our way to Heaven. Think about it, who do you know that has ever kept every single one of them perfectly? God's standard is perfection, so none of us has or could ever meet that standard. He doesn't "grade on a curve," as we tend to think. Maybe we're hoping we get into Heaven because we're "not as bad as so-and-so."

No, the Ten Commandments were given to show us that we are NOT good enough for Heaven, and by God's perfect standard, none of us would make it there!

That sounds like bad news, and it is!

But the bad news is what we need to hear, so we recognize just how good the Good News of the Gospel really is!!

✝️ Jesus Christ came to Earth and lived the PERFECT life we never could. He took our sins with Him to the cross, where they were buried with Him forever. Then, He rose again from the dead, in fulfillment of the Scriptures, showing us that all who out their trust in Him alone for salvation will one day rise again, too!!

➡️ "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

Have you repented (turned from self and sin and towards God) and trusted in Jesus alone and His finished work on the cross to save you? If you have, then you are God's child, filled with the Holy Spirit. It is God's Spirit in us that makes us more and more holy as we grow in faith.

So you see, we can't reach God by trying to be holy. It's an impossible task because only God's Spirit in us makes us holy through our faith in Jesus' perfect holiness.

People will fail us, and things of this world will pass away, but Jesus's love is something we can always count on 💯%!

I'm so thankful that He loves us, even when we're unlovable or feeling unloved. It's not about who we are or what we've done to earn His love, but strictly because He is good and merciful. When we come to Him in repentance and faith, He will never turn us away. 🙏

No matter what we're going through or what the world throws our way, we have a good, loving, and perfect Savior we can run to any time!

📖 Romans 8:37-39 - No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

🤔 Maybe you're like me?
I grew up believing that I had to be "good enough" to get to Heaven.

✝️ It wasn't until God opened my eyes to the truth of the Gospel that we are not saved by any merits of our own--but only on the perfect, finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Such amazing grace!

➡️ Are you trusting Jesus alone for your salvation?

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
