Masami Sato is a 2x TEDx speaker, Amazon Best-Selling author, and Founder/CEO of the social enterprise B1G1. We discuss her background in social entrepreneurship and how B1G1’s innovative model forms partnerships between charities and businesses for their mutual benefit.

Formed in 2007, B1G1 was one of the pioneers of the “buy one, give one” philanthropic model. It started with a simple idea: “What if every business could make a difference in their own way, just by doing what they normally do?”

Atlanta startup creates spaces that are accessible to the workout and outdoor enthusiast, right in their urban backyard. Hydeouts Adventures creates outdoor recreation for runners, hikers, rock climbers and yogis, according to founder and CEO Bridgette Hyde.

“It’s like we’re building that home base for the outdoor enthusiast and urban active family, because we know it’s not just important to have a trail to run on…but a community to connect with and a place where they can experience the balance of recreation and relaxation,” she said.

Active citizens are looking for a challenge outdoors, in an open environment with places to eat healthy food, change clothes and relax after their workout. Hydeouts Adventures is all that and more, Hyde said.

Bill Drayton is a social entrepreneur with a long record of founding organizations and public service. As a student, he founded organizations ranging from Yale Legislative Services to Harvard's Ashoka Table, an inter-disciplinary weekly forum in the social sciences.

For Bill Drayton, “The life purpose of the true social entrepreneur is to change the world.” As the founder and CEO of Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, Drayton and his organization have been funding and supporting social entrepreneurs since the first Ashoka Fellows were elected in India in 1981.

Social entrepreneurs – working outside of conventional business and government sectors – are creating innovative solutions, delivering extraordinary results, and improving the lives of millions of people. By funding the work of over 3,000 changemakers in more than 70 countries, Drayton has impacted issues ranging from human rights abuses to climate change to poverty.

Drayton’s insight into the power of social entrepreneurs began to take shape as a young student growing up in New York City. Drayton saw public service and strong family values woven through the histories of both of his parents’ families - which include many of the earliest anti-slavery abolitionists and women’s rights leaders in the U.S.

If you have a business, your likely providing value to somebody. Where does that value go and how does it interact with the world?

Discover which way you're pushing society and lean into it. You might already be doing more good than you realize. Recognize it and double down. You're doing great!

If you don't have a business, you can always contribute too. Ask yourself: what impact do I want to leave for the world and for the people here?

The first step is awareness. The immediate next step is action.

Jasmine Burton is a lady who is tackling something that so many people would have ignored, or left for someone else to do. Tackling the worlds' water and sanitation issues.

In 2014, her senior design team won the Georgia Tech InVenture Prize Competition, the largest undergraduate invention competition in the United States, for their design of an inexpensive mobile toilet, SafiChoo.

And alongside her team at WishWash, she has taken her specific design passion and set out to improve women’s health by means of redesigning WASH infrastructure in and for the low-income communities of the world.

According to UNICEF, 2.6 billion people lack hygienic sanitation facilities and 768 million people drink unsafe drinking water and, of these people, women and girls are disproportionately burdened by poor sanitation and water inequities.
