You know, I’ve come to realize that it’s really not easy to be someone like Sir Wicknell People only seem to appreciate him when he gives to those they personally like or support. But the moment he helps someone outside their preferences, suddenly he’s called names and criticized.
Imagine being hated just for using your own money the way you choose. I know some people might insult me for saying this, but I’ve observed something powerful about Sir Wicknell the man is not tribalistic.
I remember when our beloved Highlanders Football Club was in trouble I’m not sure whether it was a ban or an issue with payments, but he stepped in and covered the outstanding money owed to a coach. Just recently, he donated close to 1 million USD to the same club.
Look at his support for the Joshua Nkomo Foundation, and the way he remembers and supports celebrities from Matebeleland. He’s not focused on one group he’s doing his best to unite people through giving.
Honestly, what he’s doing is something we’ve never really seen before in our country. He deserves to be appreciated, not torn down.
