Khalil Gibran on Fear

It is said that before entering the sea
a river trembles with fear.

She looks back at the path she has traveled,
from the peaks of the mountains,
the long winding road crossing forests and villages.

And in front of her,
she sees an ocean so vast,
that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.

But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.

Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.

The river needs to take the risk
of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear,
because that’s where the river will know
it’s not about disappearing into the ocean,
but of becoming the ocean.

The disappearance of 377,000 Palestinians in Gaza is a crisis no one is addressing.

More than 377,000 Palestinians in Gaza are missing; not counted among the living or the dead. This shocking figure comes from an analysis based on Israeli military data, which shows a major population drop in Gaza since the war began. Before the conflict, Gaza’s population was around 2.2 million. Now, only about 1.85 million are estimated to remain. That leaves over 377,000 people unaccounted for; far more than the official death tolls suggest. These are not just numbers. They could be people buried under rubble, starved to death, or lost in displacement with no record or recognition.

This massive loss highlights the devastating scale of Israel’s assault on Gaza. Entire neighbourhoods have been wiped off the map, and aid has been blocked or bombed, leaving families to die in silence. Yet much of the world focuses only on confirmed casualty counts, ignoring the far greater catastrophe unfolding. The missing 377,000 is not a mystery — it’s a warning. It reveals a war strategy that treats Palestinian lives as disposable and erases them from existence. This isn’t just war; it’s demographic destruction.

Two books that were lost to history for nearly two thousand years have just been found—but not in Greek.

They were hiding in Arabic.

Researchers at Leiden University have uncovered an eleventh century Arabic manuscript that contains two previously lost volumes of Conics by Apollonius of Perga, one of the most influential mathematicians of ancient Greece. Until now, only the first four of his eight books were preserved in Greek. Books five through seven were thought to be gone forever.

But this Arabic manuscript, written nearly 900 years ago, includes large portions of books five and seven—along with detailed geometric diagrams and original content never seen in any European text. It shows that ancient Greek knowledge did not disappear during the so-called Dark Ages. It simply changed languages.

The manuscript was part of a collection brought to the Netherlands by seventeenth century orientalist Jacob Golius. It had been quietly preserved in the archives of Leiden University for centuries—until now.

What makes this even more powerful is what it tells us about the Islamic Golden Age. Scholars across the Middle East and North Africa were not just translating Greek texts. They were preserving, commenting on, and expanding them. They kept the torch of mathematics alive when much of Europe had forgotten how to read the flames.
