This week, Jake and Bob welcome Fr. Matthew Rolling to the show to discuss healing through the lens of Thomistic philosophy.

The path to healing isn’t a straight path ,and sometimes our experiences in life cloud our perception of reality.

Fr. Matthew explains why philosophy helps us find truth and how it can redirect us when we become confused within our healing journeys.

They also explore how sin affects healing, the role of our passions, and the importance of grace.

Part 2 is out!

This week, Jake and Bob continue their series on athletics, and welcome Bart Schuchts, a former D1 football player, to the podcast.

Bart reflects on how athletics shaped his self-identity, beliefs, and relationships from childhood through his adult life.

They also discuss sports culture, fear based coaching, and the fine line between healthy competition and idolizing sports.

Ultimately, when approached with balance and intention, athletics can foster deep connection, personal growth, and spiritual insight that extends far beyond the game itself, enriching every aspect of life.

How do sports and athletics impact one's identity, faith and healing journey?

This week, Jake and Bob begin a series on athletics, diving into the profound ways sports intersect with faith.

Today, they are joined by Dr. Nicole Gabana Chiesa, a sports psychologist and former collegiate athlete.

Together, they explore the beauty of sports and how they can shape one’s identity, foster virtue, and offer opportunities for healing that extend far beyond the playing field.

However, athletics present many challenges beyond just physical injury.

They also discuss the dangers of over-identifying with athletic success or failure, the impact of parental and societal expectations, and emphasize the importance of rooting one’s identity in God’s unconditional love rather than achievements.

You don’t need to escape your life to encounter Jesus.

He’s not waiting for the perfect silence or the next retreat—
He’s here, in the rhythms and repetitions of your everyday.

He’s in the folding of laundry,
the drive to work,
the sink full of dishes.

He waits in the quiet spaces where your heart wonders if anyone sees.

This is the invitation: to let Him in. To notice Him.

Because every small act done with Him brings us into communion.

And communion with Jesus is how we heal.

Is there a secret to lasting healing and integration?

This week, Jake and Bob conclude their series on integrating faith with psychology.

They welcome Beth Stoll, a therapist from St. Louis, to talk about how an encounter with God’s love at a Healing the Whole Person retreat transformed her practice.

She not only shares how suffering creates a greater capacity for empathy but also why therapists who have experienced deep suffering themselves are able to more deeply connect with clients.

They also discuss why one must first live a life of faith before integrating faith in their practice, define the difference between praying with and praying for someone, and reflect on the challenges of trusting God rather than our own abilities.

Faith doesn’t bypass the pain. It brings Jesus into it.

Sometimes, in the name of faith, we push past what still hurts. We quote a verse, say a prayer, and tell ourselves we should be okay by now.

But God never asked us to pretend we’re healed.

He asked us to bring Him into the places that still ache.
To trust that grace and grief can coexist.
To believe that healing is holy—and often slow.

Therapy can help us name what’s buried.
Faith invites God into what we’ve named.

When the two are integrated, healing isn’t just possible.
It’s transformative.

We live in a world that wants everything to be quick—quick fixes, instant relief, rapid results. But the deepest healing and most meaningful connection don’t follow that pace.

Healing takes time because you take time.

As Jake shared on the podcast, the process of bonding and attaching is like the slow growth of roots—it’s steady, often unseen, but it’s how we were designed. Pain might crack the soil open, but true healing is nurtured through presence, attention, and patience.

God isn’t rushed with you. He tends to you like a gardener—carefully, faithfully, and with love.

Take heart. Healing is happening, even if you can’t see it yet.

🕊️ Have you felt frustrated by the slow pace of healing in your life?
💬 Share one way you’ve seen God gently tend to your heart over time.
