WHEN BAD NEWS GETS THE MICROPHONE: WHY WOMEN MUST LEAD THE CULTURE OF POSITIVE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Liberia must have an honest conversation about what we choose to amplify.
When controversy, insults and political attacks receive more attention than schools, healthcare, youth empowerment and community development, we risk normalizing negativity while ignoring progress.
Women, especially mothers and caregivers, are among those most directly affected when communities suffer from poor education, poverty, insecurity, unemployment and inadequate social services.
This is why women must increasingly take the lead in promoting and celebrating positive community initiatives. Empowering women to become voices of development means creating stronger communities for women and children themselves.
This is not a battle between women and men. It is a call for women and men to reject destructive narratives and amplify solutions.
The dedication of the new school in Volay Town, Nimba Electoral District 9, by Rep Taa Wongbe is a powerful example.
A community that relied for decades on a three-room mud structure now has a modern learning environment for its children.
Such progress deserves attention.
Government, lawmakers, traditional leaders, parents, women, youth, teachers, partners and citizens all have a role to play. We should criticize where criticism is necessary but we must also have the courage to recognize good works when they happen.
Women must not only be victims of community problems; they must be leading voices in solving them.
Let women lead campaigns for education, peace, healthcare, sanitation, youth empowerment and community development. Let social media become a microphone for solutions not simply a battlefield for insults and accusations.
Liberia does not need people who only identify what is wrong. Liberia needs citizens who are courageous enough to recognize what is right and committed enough to multiply it.
From Volay Town to every community in Liberia, let good news get the microphone.
