STAND Foundation’s Global South Playreading
Call for Directors | Actors | Workshop Participants
The Sustaining Theatre and Dance (STAND) Foundation is excited to announce the opportunity for talented directors, actors and playwrights to apply for consideration in our upcoming play reading festival and workshops. We are seeking individuals with a passion for cultural exchange and a commitment to showcasing outstanding plays written by Global South playwrights. If you are eager to be part of this unique project, read on for more information on how to apply. Please note that the project will happen in Johannesburg - only Gauteng candidates will be considered.
Project Details:
The STAND Playreading Initiative aims to feature three exceptional plays written by Global South playwrights. These selected plays will be meticulously prepared and read by talented South African directors and actors. Participating Global South playwrights will have the opportunity to lead face to face/online workshops, sharing insights into their writing process, discussing thematic and structural influences, and providing guidance to emerging South African playwrights. The play readings and workshops will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Application Requirements:
Directors
1. Applicants must have previous experience directing theatrical productions.
2. A strong understanding of global cultures and an appreciation for diverse perspectives.
3. Ability to work collaboratively with playwrights, actors, and production team members.
4. Strong communication skills both in person and virtually.
5. Knowledge of contemporary theatre practices and trends.
Actors
1. Applicants must have previous experience acting in stage productions.
2. Demonstrated ability to adapt to different roles and styles of performance.
3. Willingness to explore new characters and bring them to life through interpretation.
4. Excellent vocal projection, physicality, and emotional range.
5. Openness to working with directors/actors from various backgrounds.
Aspiring Playwrights Workshop Participants
1. Emerging playwrights eager to learn from experienced Global South playwrights.
2. Willingness to engage in discussions about writing techniques, themes, and structures.
3. Open-minded individuals interested in expanding their creative horizons.
