The prosecution in the alleged cybercrime trial of Omoyele Sowore has faulted the insistence by his defence that the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, must personally appear in court to testify.

Prosecution counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, argued before the Federal High Court in Abuja that another appropriate DSS official could testify on behalf of the Director General, particularly as the matter concerns actions taken in his official capacity. The prosecution also cited a Supreme Court decision in support of its position.

Justice Mohammed Umar has adjourned the case until October 6, 2026, to rule on whether the DSS Director General can be compelled to personally appear and testify as a defence witness.

President Bola Tinubu has directed the establishment of a quarterly Government Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Policy Dialogue Forum to strengthen citizens’ participation in policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced the directive at the 2026 National Civil Society Organisation Summit in Abuja. The proposed forum is expected to provide a structured platform for evidence based advocacy and ensure that community concerns are considered in government decisions.

Tinubu also pledged greater collaboration with accredited CSOs on public finance transparency, budget tracking and monitoring of humanitarian and grassroots interventions. He urged CSOs to play a stronger role in voter education, election monitoring and advocacy for electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Kaduna State Government has granted clemency to 27 inmates in correctional facilities across the state as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

According to the state government, the exercise included the release of eligible inmates as well as the payment of fines and compensation for others. The intervention brings the number of beneficiaries of the administration’s clemency initiatives to more than 500 since Governor Uba Sani assumed office in 2023.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sir James Kanyip, said the prerogative of mercy was exercised through established processes, with consideration for accountability, rehabilitation and the interests of victims. The government said more than ₦300 million has been committed to fines and compensation for victims since 2023.

The Office of the Inspector General of Police has written to recognise Ambassador Dahiru Aliyu and Dr Tonye Clinton Jaja as President and Executive Director, respectively, of the Nigerian Law Society (NLS).

The letter, dated March 10, 2026, was signed by Commissioner of Police Lateef Adio Ahmed, Principal Staff Officer to the IGP. It acknowledged Aliyu and Jaja in their respective capacities following correspondence from the two officials.

The development comes amid an ongoing dispute over the leadership and legitimacy of organisations using the Nigerian Law Society name. Another faction of the NLS had previously petitioned the IGP, alleging unauthorised use of the society’s name and identity by Aliyu, Jaja and others. Those allegations remain disputed and have not been independently established.

The Federal Government has launched the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, assigning a unique 11 character digital postcode to every addressable building in Nigeria.

The system, operated through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), uses Geographic Information System technology to provide precise location references for homes, businesses, schools, farms and offices. It is expected to support deliveries, emergency response, e commerce, financial services and public service delivery.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has urged Nigerians to find, save and begin using their postcodes when sharing their locations. The codes can be found through the official Digital Postcode platform.
