We arrived in Botswana just after the Mashatu Game Reserve had experienced an intense period of heavy rain and flooding. The rain was long overdue after a severe dry spell had taken its toll, leading to some wildlife losses - particularly among the elephants. But with food and water now in abundance, the herds seemed to be thriving once again.
As we followed Meg, Emily, Tina, Simon, & Lucy through the reserve, we captured them riding past large elephant herds on several occasions. This photo was taken from the top of a small hill, giving us the perfect vantage point to witness this particular encounter.
