On Feb. 1, Black History Month, an annual celebration surrounding the contributions that African-Americans have made to American history, begins.
Ms. Kiah Johnson Mounsey, Director of Equity and Inclusion at La Salle, posted an announcement on Schoology this morning sharing a Loom video honoring Black History Month. “On this first day of February, we begin by acknowledging that Black History Month is the country’s way of highlighting marginalized voices in history,” she said in the video.
The Falconer asked junior Aaron Leonard-Graham, Vice President of the Black Student Union at La Salle, for his thoughts on Black History Month.
“To me, Black History Month means to celebrate Black culture and life,” Leonard-Graham said. “Of course we can’t forget about our history, because that is what brought us here, but it’s important to celebrate the good in our lives and celebrate who we are as a community.”
