CHIKANKATA READY TO SUBMIT SUCCESSFUL LIST OF HEALTH WORKERS - DR. NAMBAO

Chikankata District Recruitment Committee Chairperson Dr Twaambo Nambao says the Committee tasked to select potential health workers to be recruited in the Ministry of Health has finalized its report ready to be submitted to the province as per guild lines.

Dr. Nambao who is also Chikankata District Health Medical Director says the Committee will today 3rd June 2022 take the report to the provincial administration for onward submission.

She further thanked the Recruitment Committee for their dedication to duty.

Dr. Nambao also assured potential job seekers that the best cream of staff have been shortlisted for consideration to be employed in the Ministry of Health as per advert.

She also disclosed that the selection process was transparently done in accordance with the guidelines given.

And speaking at the same meeting, Chikankata District Commissioner, Timothy Chipolyonga thanked the Committee for the job well done.

Mr Chipolyonga also stated that the recruitment of staff to be employed in the Ministry of Health in the district was done transparently by the team.

JUST IN: SAD NEWS

FOURTH Republican President, Rupiah Bwezani Banda has died.

His son, Andrew Banda has confirmed the death of his father.

He died around 19:00 hours at home.

Mr Banda who was Zambia's fourth president from 2008 to 2011.

He announced that he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2020 and was on treatment.

146,881 CATTLE VACCINATED AGAINST FMD

Government through the ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Monze district has vaccinated 146,881 cattle against the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

Monze District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator Tabitha Deka said the district received 150,000 doses of the FMD Vaccines from government.

Mrs. Deka told the National Agricultural Information Services that the cattle vaccinated was only from the 15 Veterinary Camps in the district out of the total of 20 Veterinary Camps.

She noted that there are more cattle on the ground than anticipated as farmers have a tendency of not disclosing the exact number of animals they own.

Mrs. Deka said remaining 5 Veterinary Camps will be vaccinated as soon as the extra doses of FMD vaccines are delivered to the district to cater for 85,000 cattle population remaining.

She disclosed that the vaccines are administered to cattle for free resulting in more farmers having access to the vaccines.

And Monze District Veterinary Officer Ricky Namakobo paid gratitude to government for making special strides to expeditiously deliver the vaccine to the district.

Dr. Namakobo said the estimated cattle population in Monze is 189,000 adding that the ramifications of not vaccinating cattle against the disease are sporadic FMD outbreaks.

He clarified that this would hamper the progress of disease control stressing that that is not expected looking at the overwhelming evidence of response received from the farmers.

Dr. Namakobo paid gratitude to government, the Presidency, and the ministry of Fisheries and Livestock for delivering a free gift of vaccines to the livestock farmers.

Speaking on behalf of other farmers whose animals have been immunized in Nteme Veterinary Camp Auditor Nsanhya expressed gratitude for the gesture.

Mr. Nsanhya said farmers are very much appreciative for government support in immunizing cattle against the deadly disease.

LUMPY SKIN DISEASE BREAKS OUT IN MONZE

An outbreak of lumpy Skin Disease in cattle has broken out in Monze district of the Southern Province.

Monze District Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator Tabitha Deka said the effect of the disease in terms of causing deaths in livestock is insignificant.

She however noted that her office has noticed an increase in Lumpy Skin Disease and called on farmers to administer antibiotics to their animals to ensure that the disease is abated.

Mrs. Deka further urged farmers to report to the nearest Veterinary Assistant in the event that they observe any disease outbreak for quick intervention.

Mrs. Deka said all the Camps in Monze district have been affected by the disease adding that the disease is not very lethal to animals.

And Monze District Veterinary Officer Dr. Ricky Namakobo said Lumpy Skin Disease is a viral disease that has been experienced in Monze for the past two months.

Dr. Namakobo said the first cases of Lumpy Skin Disease were reported in December 2021.

He pointed out that the disease reduces the quality of meat and hides for cattle.

Speaking of behalf of other affected farmers Auditor Nsanhya made a passionate appeal to the Veterinary Department in Monze to assist farmers to curb the further spreading of the disease.

Mr. Nsanhya said there is need for farmers to have better quality animal skins when they take their cattle to the market for them to benefit from hides equally.

Lumpy skin disease is a contagious viral disease of cattle caused by lumpy skin disease virus.

The main clinical signs include fever, the appearance of nodules in the skin, lesions in the mouth, pharynx, enlarged superficial lymph nodes, edema in the skin, and sometimes death.

FMD BREAKS OUT IN TURNPIKE AREA IN CHIKANKATA DISTRICT

Chikankata District Veterinary Officer, Dr Abraham Msoni has disclosed that Foot and Mouth disease has broken out in Turnpike area of Chikankata district of Southern province.

Dr. Msoni says officers from the department of Livestock and Veterinary have since sealed off the farm where the deadly Foot and Mouth disease has broken out to prevent the disease from spreading.

Dr. Msoni says the departments of Veterinary services have sent up a surveillance team at Kafue road block to screen vehicles and people entering the district to Lusaka province to prevent the spreading of the disease.

He says this is with the view of not spreading the disease to other places.

Meanwhile, Dr Msoni has further disclosed that over 34 000 litres of vaccines are expected in the district in the next two weeks to vaccinate all the cattle in Chikankata district of Southern province.

Dr Msoni has assured cattle Farmers in the district that officers are currently on the ground to contain the disease.

THE DEATH TOLL FOR THE PEMBA ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT HAS RISEN TO 16.

The death toll in a fatal road traffic accident in Pemba District of Southern Province involving a Toyota coaster bus and a truck, has risen to 16.

This follows the death of two others who were admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Monze Mission Hospital.

And road transport and safety agency (RTSA) chief executive officer, Gladwell Banda has described the accident as tragic and unfortunate.

The accident involved a Public Service Vehicle (PSV), Toyota coaster bus, registration number AJE 1365 belonging to the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) in Maamba and a truck and trailer, registration numbers ALH 6626 and AAN 3923t respectively, belonging to Matalingwe Transport of Lusaka.

Mr. Banda says preliminary reports indicate that the accident happened around 04:30 hours when the driver of the bus failed to keep to his lane, in the process lost control and collided head-on with the on-coming truck and trailer.

He says the bus was heading to Lusaka from mamba with over thirty-one (31) people on board.

Mr. Banda says the driver of the bus is amongst the deceased and several other seriously injured passengers are admitted to Monze mission hospital.

He says the full accident investigation report will be made available to the public in due course.

Meanwhile Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa who took time to visit the accident victims currently admitted at Monze District Mission Hospital says the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has been engaged to come through and assist the affected families who have lost their loved ones.

POLICE GIVE DETAILS ON NAKACINDA'S DETENTION

Patriotic Front (PF) Chairman for Information and Publicity Rapheal Nakacinda has been detained by Police following the utterances he made during his campaign trail in Chilenje’s Mapoloto area between 6th and 12th January, 2022.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga explains that Mr. Nakachinda 43 has also been warned and cautioned for the offences of proposing violence Contrary to Section 91 (1)(C) and Defamation of the President Contrary to Section 69 of the Penal Code of the laws of Zambia.

According to the viral recording, Mr. Nakachinda accused Republican President Hakainde Hichilema and his foreign friends of planning to evict residents of Mapoloto and to build a shopping mall there.

Mr Hammonga says in the same recording the accused is alleged to have used vulgar language against the Republican President.
