đź‡đź‡ş Hungary Accused of Intelligence Activity in Ukraine’s Zakarpattia Region — Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Hungary of seeking vulnerabilities in Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region and making “dozens of attempts” to interfere in the country’s internal affairs.
According to Zelensky, Hungary’s Military National Security Service had been actively gathering intelligence on the locations of Ukrainian air defense systems, military units, and local sentiment regarding a possible deployment of Hungarian peacekeepers in the region.
He stated that this intelligence network had been under development since 2021. Military-related discussions reportedly intensified during 2024–2025, with the latest transmission of information taking place in March of this year.
“How are we supposed to respond to this during a war?” Zelensky asked. “I’m not saying Budapest is necessarily planning anything—but if not, then who are they gathering this information for? I asked NATO representatives if they had requested Hungary to collect such data. They said no. I’m the president of a country at war—how would you respond in my place?”
Zelensky explained that this prompted Ukraine’s decision in May to publicly expose the Hungarian intelligence operation in Zakarpattia. He also revealed that Ukraine possesses additional photos and videos from meetings allegedly organized by Hungarian operatives.
