A Small Yet Meaningful Gesture by Tsüüma Village Youth Organisation. As Forest Guard aspirants begin their Physical Test (Running) today, the Tsüüma Village Youth Organisation extended a thoughtful gesture by arranging drinking water along the route to help participants stay hydrated.

Since the running track passes through the village, the organisation felt a sense of community duty to support the candidates in a small but impactful way.

Wishing all the aspirants the very best in their journey!

P.S. The team will continue providing water.

From Humble Beginnings to the Pinnacle of Medical Excellence
~ A Tribute to a Journey Forged in Silence, Grief, and Greatness~
Not every story begins with privilege, some begin with dream, sharpened through sleepless nights, long journeys and a heart that refuses to give up.
Hailing from Lampong Sheanghah Village in Mon District of Nagaland, Dr. Nyemwang W. Konyak has achieved a feat that echoes far beyond academic halls- a historic moment that marks both personal triumph and collective pride for the Konyak tribe.
With quiet strength and unwavering determination, Dr. Nyemwang has been selected for the M.Ch. (Master of Chirurgiae) Neurosurgery program at Guahati Medical College and Hospital, one of the most rigorous and prestigious medical programs in the country. With this, he becomes the first person from the Konyak tribe to enter the elite realm of neurosurgery- a discipline revered for its extraordinary complexity, precision, and life altering responsibility.
Dr. Nyemwang’s journey began in a modest circumstances, not born into privilege, but shaped by perseverance, resilience and a deep sense of purpose. His path was never paved with ease. Form the young age; he distinguished himself with academic brilliance. He became the first and only student from his village to pursue a medical degree. In 2010, he begin his MBBS at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, where he trained from 2010-2015. He then served as a Junior Resident in ENT Department of the same institution (2015-2016) gaining a crucial clinical exposure.
In 2016, he returned home to serve his people, working as a Medical Officer under NRHM at Wakching CHC, Mon District- a 14 month chapter that not only deepened his clinical skills but also anchored his purpose in community service.
He then pursued his MS in General Surgery at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Bihar from 2018-2021. He withstood some of the toughest training, long surgeries, night duties, relentless study, countless hours in the operating theatre and emerged as a surgeon shaped by both skill and empathy. He served as a Senior Resident in General Surgery at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, Patna, while also working concurrently as a Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Pataliputra Downtown Hospital.
In the midst of this challenging pursuit, life dealt its hardest blow. Dr. Nyemwang endured the deep personal loss of his beloved mother, his strongest pillar, supporter, and guide. Her dreams were intertwined with his own. Though she could not witness this milestone, her presence lives on in every decision, every suture, every life he touch.
Through grief, he found purpose.

Through sorrow, he found the strength to carry her legacy forward.
In 2024, Dr. Nyemwang appeared for NEET SS exam, India’s national-level super-specialty entrance, and secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 1977 in the Neurosurgery category. There after he joined as an M.Ch. Neurosurgery Resident Trainee at Guahati Medical College and Hospital from 20th June 2025.
Dr. Nyemwang’s selection to the M.Ch. Neurosurgery program is not merely a personal achievement. It is a historic milestone- a testament to what is possible when determination meets opportunity, and when talent is nurtured through hardship and sacrifice. He stands today as the first neurosurgeon-in-training from the Konyak tribe, but he will not be the last. His life sends a powerful message to every child from remote villages and underserved communities that “where you begin does not define where you end”.
As he steps into the intricate world of neurosurgery, a world where millimeters matter and seconds save lives, Dr. Nyemwang carries more than textbooks and scalpels. He carries the hope of people, the memory of a mother, the prayers of a village, and the pride of a tribe.
Dr. Nyemwang W. Konyak, your journey is not just your own.
It is a path lit for many.

KONYAK STUDENTS' UNION DEMANDS POPULATION-BASED JOB QUOTA IN NAGALAND.

The Konyak Students' Union (KSU) has submitted a formal representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, demanding an urgent review and reform of the state's job reservation policy.

The Union has called for quotas to be aligned with population ratios, citing historical marginalisation and systemic inequity against the Konyak tribe.

In its memorandum, routed through the Deputy Commissioner of Mon, the KSU stressed that job reservation is a “right, not a concession,” and sought the Chief Minister’s immediate intervention. “We earnestly urge your esteemed office to undertake a comprehensive and urgent review of Nagaland's Backward Tribes Job Reservation Policy,” the statement said.

Tracing the evolution of job reservations since 1977, the Union highlighted how successive policy revisions have overlooked the Konyak tribe, despite its population of over 2.5 lakh — constituting nearly 12.65% of Nagaland’s tribal demography.

Key developments cited include:

> The 1977 introduction of a 25% reservation for seven backwards tribes.

> Additions in 1979, 2008, and 2011 increased the quota to 37%, but diluting benefits for the larger tribes like the Konyaks.

> The latest 2015 notification, which, according to KSU, fails to address proportional representation.

The KSU has put forward two core demands:

> Immediate review and overhaul of the existing job reservation framework.

> Adoption of a population-based reservation system to ensure equitable access to government jobs.

The Union highlighted stark disparities: while the Konyaks make up over 12% of the population, they hold only 6% of government jobs. Mon district, the Konyak heartland, has the state’s lowest literacy rate at 56.99% and ranks lowest on the Human Development Index (HDI), according to the Nagaland Human Development Report 2016.

The KSU warned of a rising crisis of educated unemployment and the resultant social risks. “The lack of job avenues is pushing our youth toward anti-social activities and insurgent groups,” the representative stated, calling the situation a “social time bomb.”

Mon district was described as the most rural and underdeveloped in Nagaland, with 86.4% of its population living in villages, according to the 2011 census.

The KSU has urged the state government to act without waiting for the release of the 2021 Census data. They called for a special provision via a cabinet decision to address what they term as a long-standing injustice.

“The Konyak people, and indeed all of Nagaland, await your bold and justifiable decision,” the Union stated, expressing hope that the government would respond with fairness and urgency.
