In today’s video, El and Nic, Kenyan parents living in the USA, share a personal and emotional story about why we made the difficult decision to withdraw our daughter Elaina from her preschool.

After repeated unexplained illnesses and what we believe were signs of neglect and poor communication from the school, we knew something had to change. From mispronouncing her name to withholding vital health-related information, these red flags were hard to ignore.

This is more than just a parenting story — it’s a lesson in trusting your instincts. If something feels off with your child’s school, don’t wait. Their well-being comes first, and no amount of convenience or affordability is worth risking their health or safety.

We hope our experience encourages other parents—especially immigrant families—to advocate fiercely for their children.

This isn’t just my win, it’s our win—mine, El’s, my daughter Elaina’s, and every single person who stood by me. From being a banker in Nairobi to taking the oath in America… this is what the dream looks like.
