August 23, 2025 (Nygren 47 & 72, Kenny 77) CELTIC...3 LIVINGSTON...0 At Celtic Park today, Celtic's undefeated start to the domestic season continued as Brendan Rodgers' team won 3-0 thanks to goals from Benjamin Nygren in the second half and Johnny Kenny's goal.
The Celts controlled the first half, giving the visitors very little possessions or opportunities as the champions tried to dismantle Livingston and create an opening. Almost the whole first half was spent in their own half, and David Martindale's team was,
as anticipated, well-organized at the back. When Arne Engels found Shin Yamada in the area with little under 15 minutes remaining, the Celts had the ball in the net.
However, the offside flag was raised, and following a VAR review, the goal was declared offside. Shin came very near again 20 minutes later when Hayato Inamura, who was playing for the Hoops for the first time today, made a great cross into the box.
Shin headed it on goal, but the Livi keeper was equal to it and pushed it over the bar. Three minutes into stoppage time, as the Hoops surged forward quickly,
Celtic had their finest opportunity of the first half. The Japanese forward sprinted into the Livingston penalty area before squaring the pass to Arne Engels after he and Benjamin Nygren connected in the middle of the pitch.
Livingston bundled the ball away after the Belgian midfielder suddenly lost his footing on the edge of the area, just as he was about to shoot. However,
the Celts continued to put pressure on the visitors, and Nygren quickly moved the ball wide before whipping a cross for Yang at the back post.
The visiting keeper somehow managed to send the ball on to the crossbar to maintain the score tied at halftime after his header from point-blank range drew an amazing save from Jérôme Prior.
