EDO 2024: SHOULD PHILIP SHAIBU DROP HIS AMBITION?

Despite the fact that more than 90% Edolites across all the senatorial zones in the state want Comr. Philip Shaibu as the next Edo governor because of his good political, leadership and development records, some few are opining that he (Philip) should drop his ambition either because the governor wants him to drop his ambition or because they believe in zoning formula.

Philip's ambition has constitutional backing. The constitution is supreme and has given room for any qualified citizen, including a deputy governor, to contest for any election. A Governor has the right to freedom of choice but does not have democratic right or powers to impose any candidate on the people. Philip Shaibu is wise and ready to answer the call to service the Edolites. The governor's choice is not and will not be an impediment to the call to service.

Even though zoning is a party affair and decision, Edolites have considered zoning an outdated style of politics. Edolites are interested in anyone who stands the chance of bringing development, leadership, developmental stride, employment and proactivity irrespective of tribe and senatorial zone. Philip Shaibu has proven these qualities and Edolites are supporting him.

Zoning has failed Edo State in the past and that is why Edolites are shunning it because a senatorial zone once produced a governor for 8 years who did not work well. Another zone once produced two federal ministers of works but no federal roads across Edo State was dualized. Edolites are looking at qualities against zoning.

Conclusively, Philip Shaibu should not and will not drop his 2024 ambition for any reason. He respects the wish and interests of Edolites who are asking him to become their governor.

ETSAKO WEST PDP WOMEN ASKED FOR GOVERNOR'S FORGIVENESS.

No responsible mother will watch her child being castigated for long without pleading on his behalf. This is why Etsako West Local Government PDP women joined their voices with their son, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, asking for the governor's forgiveness.

Exactly four days after the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu made a public apology to his Boss and Elder brother, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, the women in Etsako West also the need to also make a public apology to Mr Governor.

The spoke person, popularly known as Madam 101, said that the governor should see the need to forgive his younger brother for the sake of peace in the state. She described the whole crises as the handiwork of the devil as the devil is known for distraction.

Women from the various wards in Etsako West, who were interviewed by Young Elites and Focus TV respectively, explained how they have been admiring the peaceful coexistence between the governor and his deputy for the past 7 years. They added that the recent feud is like a shock to them and they prayed and committed those who may be responsible for the feud in the hands of God Almighty.

The women who fell on their knees, begged the governor to give peace a chance, forgive their son in any way he may have erred and rebuild the admired relationship they both had.

OBASEKI VS SHAIBU: 'TO ERR IS HUMAN, TO FORGIVE IS DIVINE' AS ALL AFEMAI INITIATIVE GROUP MEMBERS KNELT DOWN TO APPEAL TO OBASEKI TO SHEATH HIS SWORD AND EMBRACE PEACE

The All Afemai Initiative Group (AAIG), a grassroots sociopolitical group with membership cut across the 6 LGAs in Edo North Senatorial District yesterday, Saturday, 23rd September, 2023 met in Auchi over the lingering political misunderstanding between the Edo State Governor, His Excellency Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and his Deputy, His Excellency Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu. The meeting, which was well attended by prominent and key political stakeholders in Edo North frown at the escalation of the war of attrition between the two Edo State leaders and therefore conscientiously appealed to the Digital Edo State Governor, His Excellency Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki to temper justice with mercy by sheathing his sword and embrace peace for the interest and success of their Finish Well MEGA AGENDA and indeed for the electoral success of the party, PDP come 2024.

The group, in a Press Release by the Senatorial Coordinator, Mr. Tony Otsu reminded the Edo State Governor of the deliberate attempts be made by certain mischief makers, fifth columnists and unscrupulous political elements across party line to capitalize on current crisis to whittle down the huge political capital of PDP in the state as we approach 2024.

According to the group, the lingering crisis if not handled squarely and timely may spell doom for the ruling party, PDP both at the State and at the Local Govt level and therefore advocated that the virtues of peace building being the common denominator for democratic progress, should now take precedence in all conducts of Mr Governor and his Deputy. In his words:

"The social media space is awash with viral videos which we have been forced to watch, making caricature of the exalted office of the Governor of the State and that of the Deputy. Most of the public space in the state now filled with narratives of situation tending towards the self annihilation or self immolation of our party, PDP and the State as an entity.

"We wish to use this medium to join our voices and appeal with other great men and women of goodwill in the religious and secular world to appeal to the Executive Governor, His Excellency Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki to accept the peace we bring into this issue.

"The position of the Governor and his Deputy are constitutional and complementary. The inseparable role of the duo is very unambiguous. This is to encourage unity of vision in the mission of delivery of expected democratic dividends to the masses who look up to them. We must therefore encourage an atmosphere devoid of the recent hostilities and other divisive tendencies".

The group also appealed to His Excellency to revisit and graciously reconsider his decision to relocate the office of the Deputy Governor from the Edo State Govt House. In his words:

"Your Excellency sir, we wish to place on record that the relocation of the office of the Deputy Governor outside the confines of the Govt House should be revisited. When two brothers fight themselves to death, strangers inherit their possessions. We again appeal to our Governor, especially as Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor, has made a public apology to your esteem self and office to temper justice with mercy to enable a finish well of the MEGA Agenda Project in Edo State, and a continuation of this agenda by next administration come 2024"

According to the group, only a true and genuine reconcilation between the two leaders will sustain the fruitful brotherly relationship between the Edo State Governor and his Deputy that had held together their shared vision and birthed the enduring MEGA legacy in the past 7years in the saddle of Edo State leadership.

The Edo State Gov and his Deputy have been in the news in the past few weeks over issues not unconnected with 2024 governorship but how well these issues are handled without collateral damages to the party, PDP is key. The call for peace from All Afemai Initiatives Group is therefore timely and commendable. The highlight of the press briefing was the knelling down of these party leaders appealing for peace. The two leaders need to come together and resolve their differences and work together in the collective interest of the party and Edo people in line with the Biblical saying: "To err is human, to forgive is divine"

Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu is an household name in Edo State who needs little or no introduction in the Edo political space. A well known democrat, well groomed grassroots politician and a leader par excellence who has continued to contribute his quota in the socioeconomic and political development of Edo State having served as a State and Federal Legislator and by God's grace today Edo State Deputy Governor.

His governance experience in both the legislature and executive arms coupled with his deep respect for the rule of law; his unbeatable, unstoppable, rising popularity and acceptance he enjoys across party line in Edo State placed him far above other contenders and pretenders for the Osadebe Avenue come 2024. Many see him as threat to their governorship aspirations and therefore prefer he is not contesting. We are also not surprise when unfounded and spurious allegations against him keep trending on social media. They are meant to stop him but God has been so faithful.

Today, we are proud of Comrade Philip Shaibu's exemplary leadership, administrative acumen, competence, integrity, sincerity, unfailing abilities, uncommon capacities and his undoubted loyalty to the progressive cause of the Edo people in the past 7 years as Deputy Governor. He is Tested & Trusted and therefore I have no doubt that coming from a successful, progressive activism background and be a co - partner and co - visioner of a new Edo State supporting and energizing the vision of his boss & Senior brother, Governor Godwin Obaseki who he has in the past 7 years served loyally enjoying so much latitude to work thereby given rare opportunity to understudy his boss, well groomed, learning the ropes of modern and progressive governance and developmental politics preparing him to do better after Governor Obaseki tenure. Ensuring policy continuity of this administration is one sure route to achieving a Better - Edo of our collective dream. No Governor in Nigeria has given his Deputy the latitude to work or operate like Comrade Philip Shaibu enjoys in Edo State. Well done Mr. Governor. To us your ardent supporters and followers, allowing your Deputy to work closely with you and giving such latitude means you were ready to groom, equipped and prepare him to govern Edo better after your complete 2 tenures. This uncommon gesture can further be extended in support of your Deputy to take over from you to ensure 100% policy continuity all for the collective gain of Edo people.

Whether Edo will fare better after the constitutional 8 years of Mr. Governor depends so much on his willing support for a man who has served him loyally and committed to his leadership and guidance. He must reflect on his plans on how he wants his administration legacies to be cherished and sustained. Only Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu can do this. He must avoid desperate politicians who are hellbent in sowing seeds of discord to abort his good and successive plans for Edo people. No doubt his relationship with his boss in the past 7 years has been very cordial, fruitful, unending and unstoppable and this has really helped in achieving the rare feats in the governance and politics of Edo people today.

Comrade Philip Shaibu has lived his life fighting for the Nigerian masses right from his school days as Students Leader ensuring Govt at all levels do not oppress, intimidate or inflict pain and undeserved hardship on the poor Nigerian masses through their obnoxious military decrees and anti - people policies and programmes. Joining politics after successfully fighting along with other Pro - democracy leaders to end military interventions in the Nigeria politics was therefore a welcome development.

In the politics of Edo State today, Comrade Philip Shaibu has continued to demonstrate that uncommon resilience, iron resolve and avowed commitment in the governance and leadership of our people working closely, and loyally supporting his boss and senior brother, Governor Obaseki that have culminated in the successful delivery of the MEGA Agenda to Edo people making the administration records unprecedented and uncommon achievements so far.

As Comrade Philip Shaibu continue to consult widely across party line bringing together Statesmen, women of sustance and well-meaning Edo State religious, traditional, political, opinion and community leaders together on the platform of Edo Agenda 2024 not on the trending sectional and tribal interest being promoted by some desperate politicians, it is our hope that at the end, the collective desire and interest of Edo people will be served.

I therefore urge Edo people to continue to give Comrade Philip Shaibu the needed and desired support to sustain current gain of this administration. He deserves our collective support.

Since APC took over the governance of Nigeria in 2015 under the failed leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari life has become meaningless, very unbearable and made hell for citizens and residents of our country Nigeria. Things have become worst in all sectors of our economy, from the fastest growing economy in Africa and 3rd in the world in 2015 under PDP to Poverty Capital of the World in 2022 under APC. Nigeria is witnessing the worst instability in our Nation history under APC. Insecurity has not only spread from the North East to other parts of the country but today we are not only battling with Boko Haram, we now have Banditry, Killer Fulani Herdsmen, ISWAP attacks, Unknown gunmen, IPOB, Kidnappings and assassinations everywhere. Our people can no longer go to their farms. Businesses are closing due to wrong, inconsistent policies; incompetence and cluelessness of the APC Federal Government.

It is in pursuance and fulfillment of the PDP mandate to mobilize all well-meaning Nigerians to Rescue Nigeria and Nigerians from the failed APC government that, wife of the Edo Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Comrade (Mrs) Maryann Philip - SHAIBU took to Edo North, Operation Rescue Nigeria Project to kick-start strategic grassroots mobilization of voters especially women in all the nooks and crannies in Edo North ahead of the 2023 general election.
In her message tagged: "Operation : the Hour is Now to take back Our Nation Nigeria from APC," the Wife of the Deputy Governor emphasized on the importance of embracing the Operation Rescue Nigeria Project saying it is not about PDP but about the continued existence and survival of our Nation Nigeria. In her words:

“Nigeria has not been so divided along ethnic and political divide, unsecured, and unsafe like what we have today, it is therefore our collective duty as a people and as a political party to rise to the occasion of rescuing our Nation. It is about us, it is our project. Women constitute the largest voting population in Nigeria, as wives and mothers it is our duty to vote PDP to save Nigeria from APC come 2023”.

She stated that the party campaign strategy for 2023 election is polling unit-based, in line with the new electoral process. The inauguration of women wing of unit canvassers in the six (6) LGAs in Edo North started on Saturday, 10th December, 2022 and ended today, 15th December, 2022.

According to Her Excellency, the objective of the inauguration is to replicate and build on the victory recorded in the 2020 Edo State Governorship election. He urged members of the canvasing Team to work hard and ensure that all PDP candidates emerged victorious at the 2023 polls.

She urged the women in the various LGAs to take charge of their various polling Units and avoid selling their votes as future of their children and unborn children depend on it. She reminded them of the skyrocketed prices of food and other items in the country today.
PDP candidates in the various LGAs use the opportunity to reassure the people of their preparedness, readiness and commitment to join hands with the Gov and Deputy Gov to ensure the Operation RescueNigeria Project is taken to the Units level and ensure come 2023 Nigeria and particularly their immediate constituencies are rescued from the hardship, insecurity, retrogression, economic meltdown and pains the APC led government has kept Nigerians.

Representative governance is not about numbers of years elected to represent the people but about the positive impacts in the lives of the constituents. That Etsako people are not feeling the impacts of governance at the Green Chamber of the NASS is saying the least. A very simple way to express the minds of many Etsako people who feel totally alienated, disconnected and deprived from participating in the representation of Etsako at the Green Chamber of the NASS. Performance assessment of this government is beyond the scope of this piece and shall be a topic for another day. Our concern today is the need for Etsako people to elect a leader in the next election who understands the pains and sufferings of his people and work hard to find solutions.

No doubt, at all levels of governance, the closest to the people are the legislators and this is where Etsako in the last few years have not be fortunate to have a people - Centred leader who understands, relates and committed to addressing the core challenges of the people.

It is therefore important that as 2023 draws nearer and many political parties and their candidates seek the mandate of our people to represent them at the Green Chamber of the NASS, the people must look at the characters and political antecedents of those seeking their mandate to avoid electing leaders who care less of the people and think more of themselves

As the good people of Etsako Federal Constituency keep yearning for a people - Centred and inclusive leadership; progressive politics, responsive and productive governance; effective and true representation at the Green Chamber of the NASS, we have presented to our people, Hon Andrew Momodu, a man who the cap fits. A man who has the requisite leadership, experience, capacity, competence; a grassroots political mobilizer, a down-to-earth leader, a bridge - builder, a man whose democratic credentials have remain intact and improved in the past years.

Hon Andrew Momodu is not promising to sponsor, co - sponsor Bills and move ground-breaking motions because all these are the duties expected of any serious-minded lawmaker. If he is elected he will put the interest of Etsako before self. He will be very attentive and do all to serve our people.

Hon Andrew Momodu has continued to emphasis on his competence, political will and preparedness to serve Etsako people like never before. It is not how many years or tenures he will spend at the NASS that matter but how he is able and ready to touch the lives of our people within the time available for him.

No matter the good intentions Hon Andrew Momodu has and how passionate he is to serve our people without your support and votes all will amount to mere wishes. This is why your support is very very important in fulfilling his vision for Etsako. He has the energy and commitment to serve our people.
