Summary
This conversation revolves around our experiences and challenges during postpartum including discussions surrounding postpartum anxiety, depression, and the challenges of raising daughters in a world that can be dangerous for women. We discuss the impact that postpartum anxiety had on our daily lives, the physical symptoms we experienced, & the lack of transparency on social media about the struggles of motherhood. We also touch on the dangers of comparing ourselves to others on social media and the importance of doing what works for our own mental health.
Further conversation includes the challenges we faced during our breastfeeding journeys including pressures and expectations, the lack of quality support from lactation consultants in the hospital, difficulties with bottle refusal, & how rapid weaning can cause Post-weaning Depression. We also touch on the topic of dysphoric milk ejection reflex (DMER), a condition that causes feelings of rage or irritability during breastfeeding. Despite the adversities, we talk about what helped us to persevere and continue to breastfeed.
