Patriotism Lives! In the heartland of America, a group of neighborhood teens mock and harass a retired veteran as he collects the flag for the night. Their crass attitude over the American flag is offensive...typical but offensive. One of them gets the bright idea to throw an apple at the veteran while he holds the flag. The apple hits old man in the forehead, splitting it open and bloodying him.
Out of nowhere a military SUV pulls up and a Marine Captain steps out. He strides purposefully over to the injured man. Reverently, he gathers the flag in his arms before turning to the man. The disrespect of the teens is witnessed by everyone in the neighborhood, but instead of trying to exact revenge the Captain tends to the injured party using the First-Aid kit a neighbor provided.
Eventually, some of the teens return to apologize. The old man accepts their apology with some conditions. To their credit, they accept the consequences of their actions. It's too bad this isn't real. That kind of accountability is missed in our current culture.
That said, AI will provide us a happy ending.
So, go out of your way to thank a veteran for their service. They did it for you every day of their tour(s).!
