⚠️SCHEDULED ROAD CONSTRUCTION⚠️

Reconstruction to Begin Next week at Intersection of KY 176 and Merle Travis Highway. Motorists should anticipate delays.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (October 28, 2025) - A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to reconstruction of the intersection of KY 176 and KY 246 in Muhlenberg County on Monday, Nov. 3, converting the existing "y" intersection into a "T" intersection to improve safety and visibility. The project will also remove some hills that block line of sight along this route.

Beginning on Monday, KY 176 will be closed just east of KY 246 (Merle Travis Highway) at the 5.75 mile point to begin work on the intersection. Traffic will still be able to travel between KY 246 and KY 176 west of the intersection, and from KY 176 onto Ebenezer Road, just to the east of the intersection.

Crews will also begin construction of a temporary road, also known as a
"diversion" between KY 176 and Ebenezer Road, to allow that road to remain open during construction. When the diversion is complete, Phase One will begin with the closure of KY 176 east will be extended all the way to the intersection.

At the time, the right lane of Merle Travis Highway will be blocked and temporary traffic signals will be installed on both Merle Travis and KY 176. This will allow alternating traffic flow along the left lane of KY 246 to and from KY 166 west.

During this phase, motorists can detour around the closure by following KY 246 south to U.S. 431. Then head north on U.S. 431 to KY 176 in Drakesboro.

When the first phase is completed, Phase Two will begin. KY 176 west of Merle Travis will be blocked. Traffic will now use the newly constructed roadway to head east on KY 176 and travel onto Ebenezer Road. The diversion will be removed.

During this phase a detour will be in place from KY 176 via KY 181 to KY 1163 and then onto Merle Travis Highway to return to KY 176, When construction is completed, the newly configured intersection will be reopened. Crews will then pave the roadway one lane at a time. Flaggers will direct alternating traffic flow through this corridor while paving is going on.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2026.

We would like to take a moment to thank the Muhlenberg County Judge Executives Office, Judge Executive Mack McGehee and all Magistrates for hosting the Boots and Badges event tonight.

The first responders we have in our community are no doubt some of the best and are deserving of recognition any time we can give it to them. Many have made it their life work, and many others volunteer to protect your community.

Thank you to all departments who participated.
