Listen wherever you get podcasts!

We pulled some tarot cards for April 2026 and got practical about patience in love, creativity around money, and what conflict reveals when the world feels tense. We weigh reciprocity, emotional spending patterns, and the kind of local community care that helps us keep going.

Isn’t Heathcliff Romani? We called up some academics and asked…

Actually… we just had to read it…

•Heathcliff is referred to as a “gipsy,” a slur/ misnomer for Romani people, a diasporic ethnic group from India
• Heathcliff is referred to as a “lascar,” a racial slur for South Asian people
• Heathcliff is consistently described as dark skinned and dark haired, and his race is a point of contention in the plot
• Heathcliff is found in Liverpool, a city with a high population of Romani people and the center of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade
• Romani people were enslaved for 500 years in present day Romania, concurrent with the Trans-Atlantic slave trade/ the enslavement of African people, and were also transported internationally as enslaved people

Heathcliff is likely Romani, perhaps Afro-Romani or African, and definitely not white. Roma are continually erased from historical and contemporary discussions about race despite our history of genocide, slavery, and ongoing global human rights crisis.

Our latest interview: Mina Rose is a Romani and Jamaican interdisciplinary artist, singer-songwriter, and flamenco dancer. A descendant of Urania Boswell, Queen of Kent Gypsies, she carries forward a lineage of musicians and storytellers, grounding her creative practice in memory, tradition, and resilience.

Her work moves fluidly between music, visual arts, herbalism, and metaphysics, weaving ancestral knowledge with contemporary expression. As a musician, Mina has released two EPs, supported Jorja Smith on tour, and performed for BBC Introducing at Reading Festival, blending the sounds of London’s multicultural landscape with echoes of her heritage.
She is the founder of Cargo Faërie, a metaphysical platform and “secret garden” where tarot, astrology, and ritual meet storytelling, alongside Chai Faërie (herbal teas and hair oils) and Nyam Suh (food and cultural journalism).

Since 2009 she has nurtured Girl Down Brockley, born from her love of analogue photography, evolving into a vintage clothing project. Mina continues to creatively explore how her mixed heritage and diasporic identity transforms into new cultural expression.
