It was a colorful and symbolic gathering over the in Lagos as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) hosted a statewide defection ceremony that brought together leaders, supporters, and stakeholders in a show of strength and unity.
The event, held amidst chants, banners, and the rhythm of political solidarity songs, signaled the official affirmation of a new coalition within the ADC. Former members of other political parties formally announced their allegiance to the movement, receiving a warm embrace from the party leadership.
In a coordinated display, local government chapters across Lagos also held simultaneous defection ceremonies alongside the state executives. In Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, the exercise was particularly significant, as grassroots supporters turned out in large numbers to align with the state-wide declaration.
Among the notable figures at the Lagos gathering was Hon. Emilia Ezeude, the 2023 Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency. Speaking on behalf of the non-indigene bloc in the ADC coalition as well as her constituency, Hon. Ezeude emphasized the importance of inclusivity, representation, and collective action in reshaping the political landscape of Lagos State. Her presence was seen as a strong symbol of the growing diversity within the party.
The ceremony attracted several prominent leaders, including ADC National Secretary, Ogbene Aregbesola; former Minister of Health, Dr. Ogunkelu; Senator Adekola; Lagos ADC State Chairman, Hon. Ashiru; Capt. Shelle, former PDP Chairman; and Hon. Benedict Tai, former PDP Deputy Chairman. Their attendance highlighted the weight of the coalition and the seriousness of its mission.
In a resounding declaration, party leaders officially welcomed the new bloc into the ADC family, marking what many described as a historic realignment. The atmosphere was charged with optimism as attendees pledged to work together to strengthen the party’s presence and influence across Lagos State.
With the coalition now firmly recognized, the ADC looks poised to chart a new course, drawing from the experience and strength of its expanding membership.
