Coco Gauff acknowledged the emotional toll she felt following her U.S. Open loss to Naomi Osaka on Monday, telling reporters that she “kind of broke down” to her team before allowing herself to take in some more of the positives of her run at this year’s tournament.

Osaka defeated Gauff 3-6, 2-6 in Flushing Meadows in the fourth round

I think that trying to be more positive. After the match I was really disappointed,” Gauff said. “Kind of broke down to my team. Then hearing their perspectives and everything, it definitely is a lot of positive things. I think if I kept the way I was going in Cincinnati to here, I would have been out the first round. So I think where my serve started from the start of the tournament to today was a big improvement.

“I feel like now I just have to get everything to work together. But, yeah, I knew going in it was going to be a tough tournament for me. Did I feel like I had a lot of confidence after my last match? Yeah, definitely. I think that was a big confidence booster. So today feels more disappointing, I think, than maybe it would have felt losing in the first or second round.”

Gauff, who had started the tournament on shaky ground with her serve, played well, but still made 33 unforced errors compared to Osaka’s 12.

The 2025 U.S. Open has been a roller coaster of emotions for Gauff, who played to a strong performance in the previous round against No. No. 28 Magdalena Frech and also broke down in tears during her second round match against Donna Vekic before ultimately beating her.

“For sure it was not the level that I wanted to bring, but it is a step in the right direction I feel, and I think emotionally how much this week was, I think today I just stepped in, and I maybe was a little bit empty. She forced me to earn every point out there today,” Gauff said.

Osaka advanced to play Karolína Muchová in the quarterfinals.

The Atlanta Dream, behind 23 points from Rhyne Howard, rallied late on the road to pull away from the valiant Connecticut Sun, 93-76.

Connecticut led by seven points early in the second half and remained competitive well into the fourth quarter but couldn't hang with the Dream in the closing minutes.

A pair of Saniya Rivers free throws pulled Connecticut within 76-74 with 5:07 to play. But a 17-2 run to close the game enabled Atlanta to pull away comfortably. Jordin Canada and Howard each scored six points in the closing flourish.

Atlanta shot 11-for-17 (64.7%) in the fourth quarter to post a 26-10 margin in the final period.

Atlanta (26-14) remains competitive in the tight group of WNBA squads seeking the No. 2 playoff seed behind Minnesota. The Lynx have clinched the top seed, but with the victory, Atlanta pulls even with the Las Vegas Aces for the second seed.

However, the Aces remain ahead due to the head-to-head tiebreaker, having won all three matchups this season.

All-star guard Howard tallied 23 points on 8-for-16 shooting. Point guard Allisha Gray used 11-for-11 free-throw shooting to also notch 17 points. Naz Hillmon added 17 points, including 5-for-7 three-point shooting. Hillmon had one total three-pointer made in her first three WNBA seasons, but has made 45 three-pointers this year.

Canada scored 15 points off the bench, with eight of those points coming in the fourth quarter. Brionna Jones contributed a double-double, with 10 points and 11 rebounds, eight of which came at the offensive end.

Connecticut (10-30) has been eliminated from the playoffs, but has played its best basketball down the stretch of the season. Center Tina Charles paced the Sun with 22 points and eight boards. Leila Lacan notched 17 points. Marina Mabrey added 12 points and Rivers dropped in 10 points off the bench.

Connecticut shot 50% (31-for-62) overall, but just 2-for-17 (11.8%) from three-point range.

Atlanta takes a 2-1 lead in the series between these teams, with two more games upcoming at Atlanta on Sept. 8 and in Connecticut on Sept. 10 to close out the regular season.

Graham Greene, Oscar-nominated ‘Dances With Wolves’ actor, dead at 73

Dances With Wolves” star Graham Greene has died. He was 73.

The acclaimed Canadian First Nations actor passed away Monday in a Toronto hospital after battling a “long illness.”

“He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed,” the actor’s agent, Michael Greene (no relation), told Deadline in a statement.

You are finally free. Susan Smith is meeting you at the gates of heaven,” he added, referencing the actor’s longtime agent, who died in 2013.

Born in 1952 on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Canada, the prolific actor is credited with opening doors for Indigenous actors in the entertainment industry.

An early stage actor, Graham made his TV debut on Canada’s series “The Great Detective” in 1979 before launching his movie career four years later with “Running Brave.”

Worldwide fame came several years later in “Dances With Wolves,” where he acted opposite Kevin Costner. His role as Kicking Bird in the Western film scored him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.

He subsequently appeared in starring roles, such as “Maverick” (opposite Oscar winners Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster,) “Die Hard With a Vengeance” (opposite Bruce Willis) and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” (opposite Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson).

Anna Wintour has reportedly appointed Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content for American Vogue.

The 39-year-old Vogue.com editor’s new role at the fashion media powerhouse could be announced as early as Tuesday, Puck’s Lauren Sherman reported on Monday.

Wintour, 75, revealed in June that she was stepping down from her role as head of editorial content for the fashion magazine.

At the time, Vogue announced that they were seeking someone to “lead the magazine’s daily operations across platforms” and report to Wintour.

The outlet, however, clarified that the legendary fashion figure, who was appointed as EIC in 1988, would continue to work as Condé Nast’s chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director.

Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one’s work,” Wintour told her staff in a meeting when the announcement was made, per Vogue.

“When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine.”

Wintour explained that her “greatest pleasure” has been “helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be.”

Taylor Swift's Engagement Ring Designer Speaks Out on Public Reaction to Diamond
Taylor Swift’s engagement ring designer Kindred Lubeck shared an uplifting message after the singer announced her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.

Taylor Swift’s engagement ring designer is sharing an inspiring message.

Days after the “Bejeweled” singer announced that she and Travis Kelce are set to exchange vows, Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry detailed the journey that led her to craft the breathtaking diamond.

“My name is Kindred Lubeck,” she said in a video posted on Instagram Aug. 29. “I'm 30 years old, I started making jewelry in the summer of 2019. I was 25.”

From there, the jeweler encouraged viewers to follow their passions no matter what.

“I believe that if someone says you can't do something, you should prove them 110 percent wrong,” she continued. “I think when one door closes, you should kick the next one down. I think that if you have a dream, you should never, ever quit.”

Kindred ended the video with a message of gratitude to her followers—which included a nod to a track from Taylor’s 2010 album Speak Now.

Two days after clinching home court throughout the 2025 WNBA playoffs, Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier may have secured league MVP honors, too.

The five-time All-Star was remarkably efficient in a 96-71 win over the Dallas Wings on Monday, scoring 25 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Her continued brilliance should remove any doubt about her candidacy to be named WNBA MVP.

Collier missed seven games in August with a sprained right ankle, opening the door for others, including Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson and Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas, to enter the mix.

However, Collier has been great since returning on Aug. 24. In four games, Collier is averaging 23 points per game while shooting 51.6%, including 50% on three-point attempts.

This season, Collier is averaging a career-high 23.5 points per game while appearing in 30 of the Lynx's 40 games.

Jonquel Jones holds the record for most games missed by an eventual MVP, missing five games in 2021 with the Connecticut Sun.

That was when the league had a 32-game regular season. With the WNBA expanding to 44 games, it makes sense for players to miss more games but still have MVP-sized impacts.

More importantly than Collier's likely individual honor, her exceptional return from injury has solidified Minnesota as the team to beat when the playoffs begin on Sept. 14.

The Lynx lost the WNBA Finals in five games, 3-2, last season. Their 32 wins are the most in franchise history, an impressive feat for a team with four WNBA champions.

A fifth could soon follow, but not before Collier earns her first MVP.

Meghan Markle called out her husband, Prince Harry, for not liking a particular food on the new season of her Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan.”

In the Season 2 episode with Chef José Andrés, the Duchess of Sussex revealed Harry doesn’t like a certain type of seafood.

“You know who doesn’t like lobster? My husband,” the 44-year-old told her guest

And you married him anyway?” Andrés jokingly replied.

While Markle didn’t reveal why the Duke of Sussex, 40, doesn’t like lobster, the royal family traditionally avoids eating shellfish.

“When dining, the royal family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules. It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties,” King Charles’ former butler, Grant Harrold, once said, according to the Mirror.

Queen Camilla also previously revealed garlic “is a no-no” amongst the royal family.

“I hate to say this, but garlic. Garlic is a no-no,” she admitted during a 2018 appearance on “MasterChef Australia.

Chloë Grace Moretz is officially a Mrs.

The Kick-Ass actress married Kate Harrison in a private ceremony over Labor Day Weekend following seven years together, the couple confirmed to Vogue Sept. 1.

And while photos of their nuptials have yet to be revealed, Chloë and Kate—who confirmed their engagement back in January—did provide glimpses at their gorgeous custom Louis Vuitton looks designed by Nicolas Ghesquière leading up to the big day.

“When we got engaged, I knew immediately that I wanted to reach out to Nicolas and Louis Vuitton [to] see if he would be interested in making my wedding dress," Chloë told Vogue in a video published Sept. 1, "and got a very overwhelmingly excited response from Nicolas that not only would he be willing to make my wedding dress but he also wanted to include Kate in that—and to make both of [the] wedding dresses and our after-party looks."

And the results went above and beyond her expectations. To head down the aisle, Chloë, 28, opted for an "old Hollywood-inspired" baby blue wedding dress that featured ruffle detailing and spaghetti straps.

The Polish CEO who was caught on camera snatching a signed hat off a child at the US Open admitted he made a “serious mistake” after viral footage turned him into an international villain.

Piotr Szczerek, the boss of paving stone company Drogbruk, said he believed tennis star Kamil Majchrzak was signing the hat for him to give to his sons when he appeared to grab the cap from the little boy.

“I would like to unequivocally apologize to the boy who was harmed, his family, as well as all the fans and the player himself,” Szczerek wrote on Instagram. “I made a serious mistake

“In the emotions, in the crowd’s joy after the victory, I was convinced that the tennis player was handing the cap in my direction — for my sons, who had earlier asked for autographs,” he added.

It is a painful but necessary lesson in humility for me.”

Szczerek, who has been at the center of outrage after the video went viral last week, said he has apologized to the boy and his family for his actions

He also claimed that neither he nor his family have made any statements regarding the incident prior to Monday — debunking viral posts that have been made in recent days pretending to be him and mocking the situation.

The fallout led to Szczerek’s countrymen blasting him on a Polish job search site as a “sack of garbage,” “common thief,” “primitive scammer” and “shameful jerk.”

But he claims that it was just a mistake during the excitement over his fellow countryman’s win.

For years, together with my wife, I have been involved in helping children and young athletes, but this situation showed me that one moment of carelessness can undo years of work and support,” the Polish millionaire wrote

It ain’t over till it’s over, but Aaron Judge is now even with Yogi Berra.

Judge pulled into a tie with Berra for fifth on the all-time Yankees home run list, crushing the 358th of his career on Sunday afternoon before falling to the White Sox 3-2 at Rate Field.

To get a chance to tie one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Yankees in homers, it’s pretty special,” said Judge, who has 43 homers this season. “The way Yogi played the game, what he meant to pinstripes, you knew how much it meant being a New York Yankee to him. I feel the same way. I’m honored to wear this jersey, so it’s pretty cool to be on that list with him.

Up next is Joe DiMaggio at 361, though it will take a few more seasons to reach the rest of the leaderboard of Lou Gehrig (493), Mickey Mantle (536) and Babe Ruth (659)

It’s the company he belongs in,” manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s certainly earned his way into those rarefied air names with the career he’s put together so far

He’s as good as we’ve seen in this generation.”

It marked the second straight game and third in his past five in which Judge has homered, an encouraging sign for the slugger, who has not found a groove in 24 games since returning from the injured list for a right elbow flexor strain.

Entering Sunday, he was batting .218, but with a .856 OPS across the first 23 games of that stretch.

Judge came within a few feet of hitting a second home run on Sunday and passing Berra, but he settled for a double off the center field wall before scoring on Cody Bellinger’s double.

Don’t count out the American men — or man — just yet.

The last representative, Taylor Fritz, doesn’t look ready to go anywhere.

The world No. 4 Fritz is headed back to the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open after his impressive straight-set victory over No. 21 Tomas Machac 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 at Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The early departures of No. 6 Ben Shelton, No. 14 Tommy Paul and No. 17 Frances Tiafoe left only Fritz

If that brought any added pressure, he didn’t show it in reaching the quarterfinals in Queens for the third straight year

“I guess it can be a good thing for me,” Fritz said. “Hopefully, the crowd is really going to get behind me now because I am the last guy.

“It’s surprising. I think it’s just been a rough week for the guys. I mean, it’s tough, Ben with the injury, then I think [Tiafoe] and Tommy just ran into some guys who were dangerous players, playing really good tennis, so it happens.”

Not to the 27-year-old Fritz.

He conceded just 13 points on his dominant serve without facing a break point in the brief one-hour, 38-minute rout.

He broke Machac late in each of the first two sets to take a commanding lead.

In the third, a Machac double-fault gave Fritz an early break, and he cruised from there

After dropping a set in his previous two matches, he didn’t have nearly as much trouble

Fritz did enough in the return game and was in complete control with his overpowering serve, notching 14 aces and winning an absurd 35 of 39 points on his first serve.

“I thought it was definitely the best match I have played so far in this tournament,” he said.

Fritz advances to face No. 7 Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

The two have met 10 times before, with Fritz losing each matchup.

He obviously is a different player now, compared to several of their earlier encounters

“I think the way to turn it around is just to become a better player,” Fritz said. “For me, in my head, I’m not thinking about all the losses I had to Novak, I don’t know, like, five years ago. I was nowhere near the level of player that I am now.”

Last summer, he broke through here to reach the final, where he lost to Jannik Sinner.

In doing so, Fritz became the first American man to play for a Grand Slam title in 15 years.

The last American to win a major was Andy Roddick 22 years ago at the U.S. Open
