There’s been growing buzz in Hollywood about a long-awaited sequel to Francis Lawrence’s post-apocalyptic hit I Am Legend (2007), and now whispers from industry insiders suggest that I Am Legend 2 may finally be moving forward — with Will Smith reprising his role in a surprising twist, and Michael B. Jordan joining him in a co-lead capacity.
The original film, based loosely on Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel, ended with Smith’s character, Dr. Robert Neville, sacrificing himself to save humanity. But according to early details, the sequel may draw from the film’s alternate ending — in which Neville survives — offering a fresh continuation of his journey. Insiders speculate that this approach would allow the new film to remain faithful to Matheson’s themes of coexistence rather than absolute survival.
Jordan’s character is being kept tightly under wraps, but sources hint that he could play either a fellow survivor with his own community or a new type of hybrid human who has adapted to the infected world. “It won’t just be a mentor-student dynamic,” one source explained. “Jordan’s character will challenge Neville in unexpected ways — morally and physically.”
