President Kiir has made two significant changes in his administration. He has appointed General Charles Chiech Mayor as the new Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service (NSS). In a separate move, President Kiir has also sacked Lily Adhieu from her position as Press Secretary in his office.

𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚, 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟒𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 --- President Salva Kiir Mayardit this afternoon travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 38th Ordinary Assembly of the Heads of State and Government for the African Union.

The Summit held under the theme 'Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations' will focus on advancing reparatory justice and fostering racial healing across the continent.

Press Secretary Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel says while in Addis Ababa, President Kiir will hold several sideline meetings, with other leaders, including the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, to discuss the peace process in South Sudan, the Sudan's refugees in the country and issues of climate change among others.

President Kiir's participation in Summit demonstrates South Sudan’s commitment to regional cooperation, focusing on peace, security, and economic development for the African continent.

𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚,𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓----President Salva Kiir Mayardit welcomed President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau to Juba.The visit marks a critical moment as the two leaders seek to initiate and formalize diplomatic relations and explore areas of mutual interest between Juba and Bissau. Upon his arrival, President Embalo received a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace, where he inspected the guard of honour.

The two leaders discussed bilateral engagements in various fields such as trade, cultural exchange programs, and cooperative efforts in strengthening regional peace. During the meeting, President Umaro expressed Guinea Bissau’s readiness to support the South Sudanese peace process.

Akobo County 11 February, 2025, 19 Cases of Cholera Outbreak confirmed in Akobo County

Today, Tuesday 11 February 2025, Akobo County Health Department Received 17 cases and 2 death of Cholera, all the cases came from Tierguol Wareda.
Tierguol is of the Payams of Nuer Zone in Gambella State of Ethiopia but it is just adjacent to Akobo Town.

All the 17 Patients are receiving treatment from Akobo Teaching Hospital.

I call on, the state, national ministry of health and Humanitarian partners to urgently intervene into this unfolding outbreak.

Scarification is one of the most important practices in Africa. Scars/marks done especially cutting the skin signify a lot. This is the practice of Nuer in South Sudan, one of the 64 tirbes. All these marks have different meanings. Being a man requires a tremendous jaunt with lots of hardships. It's considered as a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood. The Marked scars are then called Gaar which symbolize the uniqueness, beauty, bravery as well as strength. Men with Gaar are highly considered to be well-equipped adults in Nuer Society. They are normally cut as six marks and seven sometimes with conditions. Each mark has its own meaning as explained below:
1. The first mark means that a man shouldn't act childishly, but man-up in the society. It indicates the shifting from boyhood to manhood. (Wuɔ̱c dhɔɔlä)
2. The Second mark shows the bravery, fearlessness and independent life. It truly indicates that one ought to be independent and should be capable of living alone as man.
3. The third scar signifies the honesty. It advocates that a man shouldn't steal and should be honest in the society.
4. The fourth mark indicates that a man should not eat publicly. Eating recklessly in public is seen as a disgrace to manhood.
5. The fifth one signifies that a man shouldn't be greedy one or glutton.
6. The sixth mark means that a man shouldn't commit adultery or lust.
7. The last one indicates the elderly boy in that family. When siblings are being initiated together, an elder one is cut with an addition of one mark to show his position. Visit South Sudan and see many practices and initiation rites with the unique cultures.
