The Canadian Grand Prix turned into complete chaos. George Russell goes wide at a crucial moment, and Lando Norris takes full advantage to move ahead. Multiple crashes, a slippery track off the racing line, and a safety car reshuffle the order completely. Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, and Alex Albon are all caught in incidents as conditions catch out several drivers. After the restart, the battle intensifies again. Verstappen leads, the McLarens are on the podium, and Hamilton capitalizes on Russell’s earlier error to move forward into contention once more.

This clip comes from the Silver War 2016 watchalong, during the Canadian Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg tries to pass Max Verstappen, but quickly realizes how difficult it is to overtake him. At the time, Verstappen was already showing signs of what he would become: a future champion who made overtaking him a real challenge, even for the top drivers.

In this clip I comment on the start of Sebastian Vettel’s race at the 2017 Canadian Grand Prix. A slight contact with Max Verstappen damages Vettel’s front wing, and moments later part of it breaks off on the back straight. The debris gets stuck under the car and forces Vettel to pit at the end of the first lap, dropping him to the back of the field. A small incident with huge consequences in the middle of his 2017 title fight.

The Canadian Grand Prix has produced some of the most memorable moments in Formula 1 history. In this video, I revisit three iconic scenes from Montreal. First, George Russell takes pole position in 2024 by setting exactly the same lap time as Max Verstappen. Then, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton share a light-hearted moment as Vettel explains how he passed through a group of seagulls at Turn 1 during the race. Finally, Lewis Hamilton receives one of Ayrton Senna’s original helmets after surpassing Senna’s all-time pole position record in qualifying.
