It’s so difficult to find a decent tasting protein cereal that does not contain tree nuts or manufactured in a facility with tree nuts. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Do you remember last week’s video where Zoe alerted to the outside packaging of a nut free loaf of bread? Here is the same product but a different loaf I just purchased and this time Zoe cleared it. No cross contact on this one!

Zoe cleared the meal for tree nuts but why won’t I eat it? Because I am also allergic to fish and shellfish and Zoe is not trained to detect them and the label states made in a facility with fish and shellfish. Cross contact is a definite possibility and I won’t take that chance.

Why wasn’t Zoe trained to detect fish and shellfish? I could have but I decided not to as Zoe wasn’t trained until the age of 6. If and when I train another dog I will start as a puppy and will train for tee nuts, fish and shellfish.

Zoe has worked and is comfortable with my daughter on checking items for my food allergen so I decided to see how she would be with my husband.

This was her second time working with him and it went well. She alerted to the tree nut with an excellent freeze.

Did you notice her licking her nose at the end of the sniff? A wet nose is more effective and maximizes the scent.

Today, May 20th, is International Red Sneakers Day, a day to spread food allergy awareness and to support friends and family who suffer with food allergies.

The Debbs family started Red Sneakers for Oakley in hopes of preventing another family from experiencing the excruciating loss they went through after losing their 11-year-old son, Oakley, due to his nut allergy. Oakley loved wearing red sneakers.

“May contain” strikes again!

One of our IG friends asked if we could check the new gluten free Cheez It crackers as the label states may contain almonds. Zoe alerted to one out of the 2 boxes.

My recommendation is if you are allergic to almonds stay away from this item.
